Fantasysci5: *headdeak* I had talked myself out of Guild Wars, but with lots of people here saying it's great, I'm tempted again. Ar, is the stroy/characters any good?
And I'm sorry I keep asking that about every other game, I'm just horrible at making my own decisions. :P
Yes and yes. You have the 3 campaigns + expansion which are all self-contained stories and are good quality (mostly). I'll go in chronological order for the campaigns + expansion.
Prophecies has you playing a person from Ascalon who is fighting a war against a feline race known as the Charr. Stuff goes wrong and in typical RPG fashion you are traveling around the world for various reasons. Saying anymore will spoil it. By far the most 'epic' and quality campaign of them all.
Factions didn't happen. The story in this one is terrible but is worth a play through just for the setting and because it is the shortest campaign.
Nightfall has you stopping the return of a dark god who wants to bring night on the world.
Eye of the North is an odd one because it was meant to branch Guild Wars + Guild Wars 2 together. The campaign revolves around getting rid of the Destroyer who is causing all sorts of problem in Northern Tyria.
After this you have a bunch of free content called Guild Wars: Beyond. This is mini-campaigns that add a lot of content and further branch the Guild Wars + Guild Wars 2 gap. The two parts released now wrap up stuff after the events of Prophecies and Eye of the North.
As you can see Arena Net really cares about the lore/story/characters and the game is a testament to that. There is also a demo on the main site if you are still unsure.
If I had the money I would just flat out gift you the game if you can't decide because this game is that good.
