Lou: If they are clear cut - what is your standard for making that decision. I still do not see you making any point other than your personal opinion and dragging in Civil Rights issues to validate your point.
OK, well if we want to get in to a deep philosophical conversation about the meaning of right and wrong, we'll be here all night.

I'm dragging civil rights issues in to validate my point because gay marriage IS a civil rights issue and as such, they can be compared. We don't think twice about attacking racist opinions because they're so clearly not OK. This is the only point I was making - the issue of gay marriage is an analogous one. People may refuse to see it, but I'm sure the folk in that image I linked believed they had entirely rational and reasonable beliefs on marriage too.

No it is not and if you ask 90% of the Black Community they will tell you so. You think it is a Civil Right but it isn't. What are you basing this on? Back it up. I do not see anything other than your opinion.

Nafe: If you check my earlier post I said "in some cases". Some cases are clear, some are murky and worthy of discussion.

If someone says "niggers are filthy criminals and should be put down" I can safely say that's wrong and the person who says it is a racist fucking moron.

If someone says "gay marriage is wrong" I think they're a bigot and also a moron.

Some things are clear cut. Whether or not you agree with the second example, I'm betting you do agree with the first. Do you concede that certain opinions/viewpoints are wrong/invalid?

Let's hear your clear cut argument for opposing same sex marriage.
avatar
Nafe: snip
If someone says "we should fire that man, because he's gay" it's homophobic, and I don't support this.

If someone says "I think that marriage should remain only between man and woman, because I belive that things should remain as they were for the past two thousand years" he/she express an opinion. You may not agree with, but it's still opinion.

And as you are not The Judge, you can't even say it's true or false, right or wrong, you may only say that you agree or disagree with it,

I do believe that people should not be punished (and being fired from job is a kind of punishment) for expressing their opinions.
ALRIGHT FINE I GIVE UP. Continue being children... Jeeez....

I don't see what the black community has to with anything, I'm talking about civil rights for gay marriage. The reason it's a civil rights issue is that a certain subset of the population is being treated as lesser people by not being allowed to marry.

Well that entirely depends on their job. A football commentator got fired from his job for making some very sexist comments here in the UK. Firing him was entirely reasonable given the situation.

The Standard I follow in all matters makes it very clear that both Racism and Gay Marriage are wrong and that is the Word of God.

....lol :/. So basically, you believe homosexuals shouldn't be allowed to marry because... your imaginary friend told you?

Good grief.

You are trying to equate their Civil Rights struggle with Gay Marriage not me. I am asking where you are coming up with this and it certainly is not from them as they overwhelmingly disagree that Gay Marriage should be equated with the Civil Right Movement. You are wrong again - they are not being treated as lesser people because they are denied Marriage. Are single men lesser because they are not married? No. Are children lesser because they are not married? No. Are Gay people lesser because they are not married? No.

Showing your tolerance again I see. Well thought out and highly defensible position.

If it's very sexist comment, I suppose it was unpolite. And that may be the reason, because using rude words on vision is not professional, and it is something that may lead commentatot to lose his job.

This is very different from saying in polite way that you don't support same sex marriages.
That Canadian TV speaker did that on tweeter, not while he was working. Still, you said that he should lost his job because his opinion cannot be tolerated.

We both said clear cut opinion? Wtf is this?

I don't tolerate ludicrous and vile opinions, oh and religion. Plus that's a little rich - "it's the word of God" is not exactly a well thought out and highly defensible position is it :).

Sounds like he lost his job because the TV network felt they didn't want have someone be the public face of their network while being known to have bigoted beliefs. Sounds fair enough if you ask me.
