wodmarach: GMT... Greenwich Mean Time.. The time that is the world standard? The one all other times are listed as + or - hours from?
For the US it's between 5 and 8 hours ahead atm I think
Behind (GMT-5 to GMT-8).

avatar
MonstaMunch: It's harder for those of us who live in countries that don't put the clocks forward/backward, as it means our time difference from GMT varies depending on the time of the year.
GMT is always the same and doesn't change when the clocks do, e.g. in the UK we're currently using GMT but in the summer we change to using British Summer Time which is one hour ahead of GMT (GMT+1).

chaosbeast: GMT is a EUROPEAN thing
avatar
wodmarach: No it's a worldwide thing America just hates that washington didn't get the prime meridian all those years ago I was serious about the fact you refused to use it until you had no choice anymore.
Glad to see ignorance occurs both sides of the Atlantic. By America, you mean the US right? -cause if look at where I'm from, you're an idiot as to why CANADA doesn't follow your logic. It'd be like blaming the fact your country isn't in the EU to the vote rigging in Russia or the Coriolis force as to why your country have terrible dental hygiene. You can thank Sir Fleming for the decision to teach us Canadians the way we look at time, not the fact that the Canadian/Scottish engineer put the prime meridian where he did.

keeveek: Thank God only americans think USA is the center of the world.

HoneyBakedHam: The comment you are responding to came from Malaysia.
And what is wrong with that YOU RACIST?! Malasyan guy can't think that USA are in the center of the world? :D

Hilarious.
There's a perfect time and place for Americans joke, but I can't find a picture :P

edit: found it. Let the RAGE begin :D

carlosjuero: In Windows Vista and 7 [and maybe XP, I don't remember] you can add multiple time zone clocks to the tooltip for your system tray clock.. that is how I keep track of non US time zones easily :) (Right click on the clock, select Adjust Time, and then the Additional Clocks tab)

[Right now, since DST is no longer in effect, GMT/UTC is +5 to US Eastern]
Thank you for this useful hint. I often get confused by additional summer/winter times. I often call to Argentina and I never exactly know the time difference.

Actually Canada should have taught you it but if you want to be arrogant you can always go back to like your first year of geography where they taught you about timezones. But if you want to just just to conclusions... or if course you may be forgetting that in many places we shorten the United States of America to just America, call Canada you know Canada and the south American countries by their names

MonstaMunch: and current time GMT can be looked up in a matter of seconds.
Further to that shouldn't people at least know what time zone they're in? Given that timezones are all defined as offsets from GMT/UTC, working out GMT shouldn't be that hard.

I thought that GMT stayed still and countries changed timezone when they put the clocks forward. I'm pretty sure the UK jumps into GMT+1 during the summer (so it's as if Greenwich jumped into the atlantic).

JeCy: the good news i saw a post that said all games will be 50% off on monday, so i can just pick it up then.. Which made me happy again.
avatar
Vorax: The Witcher 2 will not be 50% off, GOG said 40% off is the best deal we are going to get.
Ohh, well its the same price as it was the other day.. so thats fine, i already owned the witcher anyway.

I ended up buying a few other games too...

Yep, my bad. I'm originally from the UK so when dealing with people there I sometimes forget whether the difference is 6 hours or 7, but you're right, they move around GMT regardless.

SimonG: Oh man...

1. This was a joke. Because you fell into a stereotype pitfall as big as Texas. Without going into detail how it is possible to not know GMT, you just displayed stereotypical American behaviour. Hence, my joke.

2. Your lack of humor and inability to take a silly joke on your expense is another American stereotype.
Well if it was a joke, ok.... I have no issue with humor, I know what GMT is,, i just didnt know where the line was is all so in my head i just wasnt sure on how i missed it... aka how far around the world, But after some people explained something, I saw why i was confused,..

Like i said, i had the AM/PM messed up. Would you like to insert a sienfeld joke?.

I just made the post cause i was bummed, and didnt expect to be called stupid or made fun of.. there i go thinking again..

Personally, i just dont like humor that involves making fun of someones intelligence especially generalizations, i put it right up there with rascism.. Sorta like making fun of someones spelling. Just because someone doesnt spell well, doesnt mean they arnt smart enough to slip an atom...

On a side note.. I dont understand why there are time zones in the first place.. I find the whole concept moronic. It's the Same time of day it doesnt mater if its not light out, yet it is someplace else Sun up/set changes, yet time is always a constant.. Why we need to abitraily make it so so time of day is the same,, and can be especially confusing if you live on a line. It sure would make things a lot less confusing..

this isnt time travel.. its the same time of day, no mater what your clock says..

JeCy: Not knowing what what the heck GTM time is.. thinking i had till noon...

Woke up this morning logged in to buy the witcher 2.. and saw it expired.. made for a not so good morning.. :(

I already had witcher 1, and wanted to gift it to a friend, and i've been looking forward to grabbing it all week.. Totally bummed..
Looks like you're in luck! The Witcher 2 is back on sale for 40% off again - you don't get the The Witcher 1 bundled with it, but The Witcher 1 is 50% off itself.
