senbon: Same in Norway, a new console game can easily cost up to $100.
Console release here average out to about $90 given the current exchange rate. The cheapest are usually in the 6000 yen region (about $67) with most expensive being in the 9000 yen range (about $100). Some go for more, rarely do non-rereleases go for less.
PC games on the other hand, get the dreaded "open price" RRP. Meaning retailers can charge whatever they want. Which is usually 10,000 yen at the very least (about $112). Square are now establishing a regular price on Steam of $80 for PC games that are $60 in the US. Of course, given the worsening exchange rate, it won't be long now before that $80 price tag is akin to actually paying $100 =(.
So yeah, every time I see someone complaining that $60 is too expensive, it makes me laugh. They don't realise how good they actually get it.
