I can not even remember the last fullprice game I bought... maybe it was Shenmue 2 on the dreamcast...
I think the last full price game I bought was Deus Ex, so there you have it. Let them raise prices all they want, it just means that my thirteen year streak will remain unbroken for quite some while yet...
The numerical "prices" will go up in time, due to inflation.

Anyway, vote with your wallets. If you don't agree with the price, don't buy it. That's one of the main reasons I'm not so hot on getting a gaming console, because most games seem to have premium prices on them.

Like now they were selling some older PS3 game re-releases for the special price of 20€ per game. I must say I'm used to much lower special prices in PC gaming.

johnki: They are NOT raising the price of video games again.
Game prices have not gone up since the days of the NES

Seriously people they haven't even followed inflation!

As you can see they haven't games in the 80's were $50-70 today they are still in the same range

It will be $2 in two months, so who cares? I've seen games drop to half their RRP before they're even released.

FantasyNightmare: As an Australian, I think it's said I see that a new AAA game costs $70 & I think "Not bad"
avatar
bansama: Same here, considering prices in Japan.
Same in Norway, a new console game can easily cost up to $100.

Console release here average out to about $90 given the current exchange rate. The cheapest are usually in the 6000 yen region (about $67) with most expensive being in the 9000 yen range (about $100). Some go for more, rarely do non-rereleases go for less.

PC games on the other hand, get the dreaded "open price" RRP. Meaning retailers can charge whatever they want. Which is usually 10,000 yen at the very least (about $112). Square are now establishing a regular price on Steam of $80 for PC games that are $60 in the US. Of course, given the worsening exchange rate, it won't be long now before that $80 price tag is akin to actually paying $100 =(.

So yeah, every time I see someone complaining that $60 is too expensive, it makes me laugh. They don't realise how good they actually get it.

Where i live, people would boycott that price. I don't get it. Why does everything have to be so expensive in Australia.
How do you afford anything there?

Wii games (that includes most launch titles) still cost about 50 euros after all those years.

Isn't that due mainly to Nintendo never dropping the price on their games?

Probably. It's an outrage.

It probably won't be 2 dollars that fast, but you'll certainly find it for around 10.

Apparently they've got a dog that no one likes with this story arc, I can't believe that they really think this one is their magnum opus.

Those boxes look a bit spiffed up, I kind of wonder if that's the collectors edition.

But in Norway, the wages are much higher than in the States.
Someone above the age of 18 without a college degree can expect to make at least about $20-$25 an hour. I earned $24 an hour when I worked as a salesperson in a camera equipment store. Here, however, I earn $8 an hour.

I quoted you because I happen to know the wage differences between Norway and the States, but my point isn't directed at you, but rather at everyone in this thread; prices don't mean a thing. It's how long it would take to earn enough money to buy whatever (, in this case a computer game,) that shows the real differences between countries.

Looks like a mock up. All they've done is chuck the logos on there. But then again that often looks better than the final box art.

Gazoinks: 70 do-... wait, there's a third Final Fantasy XIII game now?
There is no release date that I can see for it yet, but it is due 2013.

On topic, I checked the pre-order price and its same as the last couple of FF games on PS3.

On saying that, games are actually coming down in price, on the old black XBOX games here were 75 POUNDS, now they run from 45-55 EURO (for 360/PS3 games), which is significantly less expensive.

(snipsnip :>)
I can understand that, but up to $100 for a game is expensive, even by norwegian standards.
