Crosmando: What annoys me a bit about the indie scene currently is that the actual "complex" titles, games with a "normal" artistic style, games that don't fit into the cartoon-y block-y artsy paradigm of what "indie" means, they are essentially completely ignored by the "mainstream" of indie devs and community. They don't look like FEZ or Minecraft so they aren't recognized by their peers. (...)

Get ignored because they aren't cartoony platformers
And still some get through:
Eador
Giana Sisters:TD - Platformer but not in pixel style at all.
The Witcher - Does Indie have to small?
FTL
Ring Runner
Botanicula
and so on.
I try to stay positive.

hunvagy: *cough* oldgames.sk? ;) Nice list though, especially all the gold box games. And special thumbs up for Birthright and Reunion :)

Crosmando: Oldgames.sk is awesome :) best not speak of them further though or I might get banned

And yes Birthright is amazing, one of the few examples of a genre-bender game done right
Hehe yeah, there's two more kinda genre-bending games that I loved and would love to see here. Muzzle Velocity and Red Ghost (hint, hint, I added latter to the vote wishlist) Both are strategy games and war simus at the same time.

True, those were all good.

Narakir: All games eventually become old :p
That doesn't mean they become good aswell ;)

"If I were to choose between one 2d indie platformer and another. I'd rather choose none"

:geralt mode off:
And that would be a choice, too. ;)

keeveek: have you guys seen the newest Breaking Bad episode? It's amazing.
The ozymandias references are pure madness.

Yeah that, and superior acting from everyone, bold plot developement, shitload of emotion.

I was watching this episode with my mom and she has never seen BrBa before and got immediately so hooked up I need to get her the rest of the show to see... She demands it :P

The Cat Lady?
Blackwell series?
Resonance?
All serious, all realistic (+The Cat Lady naturalistic), all pretty well recived.
Is it really that difficult for people to restrain themselves from buying games? I've got a decent sized collection and fallen for some bundles too cheap to pass up, but sometimes, even if the games are cheap I simply decide not to get them. Whenever you see a new game, take a look at your collection and find how many similar games you own and if you've somehow managed to find the time to play them. If you have a couple like it still unplayed, you don't really need the new one.

If GOG restricted itself to just old games due to their namesake, people would be complaining at how slow everything on the site is. It has happened before. Back when they weren't selling indies or new games, the updates were weekly. One measly game a week. I've no interest in getting back to those days.

...as games like Master of Orion 3, Empire Earth III and Daikatana have shown us.

Crosmando: I haven't started or finished it tbh, I'll get around it to eventually. I did like the Gateway games by the same developer and it has the same interface, but I find it hard to get in the right mindset/patience to play text/graphic adventure games nowadays.
The Gateway games are some of my favorite adventure games--and no one else seems to like them very much. It makes me sadpanda.

See it in a different perspective. While everyone knows Sierra and LucasArts games, the group who knows Legend adventures is smaller. But most who played them also love them, so at the end you can call yourself an Adventuregame-Hipster ;-)

I think it might be to do with most people playing the game because of the novels, and got disappointed, I never read them myself. I thought the games were well written though, and decent sci-fi stories. I liked in the first game how you could access terminals and read reports and news, the amount of universe lore almost borders on the books in Morrowind or the like, even though it's all completely unrelated to the main plot (remember the Earth trivia game?).

The "interactive novel"/keyword thingamajig interface was the best part of Legend's games (or at least the ones that used that engine), apart from the stories themselves. Easily the best parser system ever in a computer game I think. It retains the best things about the text-adventure, having to type out words rather than "click" while having an easy interface with indications for all objects in a room, combined with the pretty visuals of graphical adventures.

tinyE: I seemed to have missed the part where the OP is being forced to buy these games. If I can't afford something, I DON'T GET IT!!! That's why I drive a Focus rather than a Porsche. Oh sure, I'd love a Porsche, but I can't afford it, so I don't buy one. Problem solved! :D
Someone actually allowed you behind the wheel of a moving vehicle?! ...the world is a far more dangerous place than I previously considered!
I want them all, but don't have enough money to buy them all, so please stop releasing any more
Never thought I see this kind of arguing against the release of indie games on GOG...
