orcishgamer: So I don't know the demographic breakdown exactly of who's been buying the WiiU, but I strongly suspect they'd fall primarily into the hardcore gamer demographic.
avatar
N0x0ss: Long-time nintendo fans & the newly aquired audience of the wii & Ds.
So basically just a small part of the hardcore gamers.
When you consider that self-identified hardcore gamers are a shrinking demographic, NIntendo trying to expand the userbase instead of courting just one segment was a very, very smart move.
It does not help that the self-identified hardcore gamer demographic is extremely vocal and whiny if not catered to them.
The Wii was the winner last gen hardware wise because of casuals, not the hardcore. The Gamecube proved that the hardcore Nintendo faithful are not enough to propel a console to the top spot.

Of course winning hardware this generation only really benefited Nintendo and a few select partners, the software sales were lacking. Their strategy this time of making a machine that can handle ports is extremely flawed because a)no one is going to buy it for ports right now as they already own an Xbox, PS3 or gaming PC, and b)there are new machines with higher specs coming out next year which will make ports improbably on the WiiU.

And the controller, IMO, is not going to rope in casuals. They have pads already for puzzle games and the WiiU has buttons, analog sticks and a lot of other issues. Also I bet most casuals are bored of the Wii and were bored of it years ago. Why would they buy another Wii? That is how they will see it.

Take into consideration that the touchscreen in the wiiu won't work at all like the ipad, since it is resistive, not capacitive. No multitouch, no finger picking.

Won't or doesn't? The WiiU is out already you know...

Doesn't. Could've phrased it better, haha
The hits keep on coming for the Wii U

In an interview with CNN, Reggie said 3rd party games "look dramatically better on our system"

http://www.vg247.com/2012/11/26/ubisoft-ceo-we-need-new-consoles/

Ubisoft CEO: “We need new consoles”

No mention of the WiiU anywhere and with good reason, the WiiU is not a "Next Gen" system, if you think titles like Rayman Legends are going to be WiiU exclusive, you are out of your mind

What reggie says has the weight of air, that man was full of himself from the moment he started working for N and he still is

Based on everything I've heard and seen, multiplatform games look the same on WiiU in some cases even worse

Please correct me if I'm wrong or missing something here

orcishgamer: With the terrible reviews of the Batman Armored Edition port and my own experience playing Trine 2, Nintendo had better hope they get some solid games out soon.
"Terrible" is quite the exaggeration. The game's getting great scores, just not as great as it did a year ago.

Watch the giantbomb quicklook, the game looks and runs fucking terribly.

Expanding is fine, Ninetendo of America went out of their way to alienate hardcore gamers last gen and even issued press releases telling them, in effect, the Wii in North America wasn't for them.

That's alienating the very people who tend to proselytize your systems to non-hardcore gamers. It's stupid, business-wise and insulting to longtime fans.

In addition, almost every adjustment for the WiiU made the game worse, not better. How you take a 10/10 game and make it worse is beyond me...

Buyimg a WioU makes no sense
It's underpowered, like the WII, and is back to standard."vegging on the couch" controls. What's the selling point beyond buying the same Nintendo titles you have bought umpteen times already, agaim?
low rated
nintendo is the same old shit over again, playing as a pedo failed wanabe iltalian to save a horny princess, or play as midget elf whos name is not zelda, or hump around like monkey, look like a monkey but call yourself donkey..btw pikman and first metroid in gamecube brought something new
Well, lifting that monstrous screen/controller thing should give fans a workout, so that's a plus...

It's actually way lighter than it looks. It is, however, ergonomically tragic on the right side, the buttons and the thumb stick have terrible spatial relationships to each other.

CaptainGyro: On an unimportant side note, man is it awesome playing a console Mario game again like Super Mario Galaxy. Last one I played was Thousand Year Door in 2004 and that wasn't even considered a " true" Mario game. ( though it was awesome)

orcishgamer: Try not to be too disappointed in Super Mario Galaxy 2:)
I heard a bunch of times that it was better than the first, what's wrong with it?
