The woman with red hair was angry and confrontational. Their previous protest was irritating. Do you have any videos of Anita behaving in any similar way, or advocating same? I've seen nothing like that in the slightest from her two videos.

Though I have nothing to support it, my guess would be that the majority of those attacking Anita were teens and maybe twenty-somethings, not forty year olds. I don't see how younger people could already be burnt out by innumerable clashes and bad experiences in life due to a feminist UvT atttitude.

What I've seen has been people who have attacked her in every way, shape and form, in every venue, by every means available. I've seen a level of hostility and anger that to me seems COMPLETELY unjustified.

Whatever people may feel about her videos and however they may question the thoroughness of her research or the caliber of her presentation, she is at least trying. She is attempting to lay the groundwork to support her point, whatever that is, and do so in a professional manner. How is this anything but THE best way to discuss an issue? If simply attempting to broach this issue results in the shitstorm she's received, then the problem goes very deep indeed.

The only problems she's tapped into are internet rage and keyboard warriors, which can be found for any representaion of media on any forum. I'm tempted to post the Amazing Athiest's take on that MRA event the feminists crashed, but then the forum would really go up in flames. :P

Also, it'd be interesting for her to actually offer solutions instead of nitpicking. Hell, she could even get into the industry herself and try to make a difference.

Besides of that: what would video games look like if everyone would be able to take care of him-/herself? Credits right after the intro, or what? Imagine Fallout. Because they all would be Damsels in Distress if the overseer would go for the water chip.

That's... simply wrong. Computer games don't work this way. Neither do movies and books. Heck, even our real world doesn't work this way. We're helping each other the whole day. What am I supposed to do if my girlfriend asks me to open the bottle for her (they are hard to open sometimes)? You still dont get it. The point is that the whole game revolves around the damsel in distress, it is the main point of the whole story. The main drive for the player to follow the story. Is that true for GTA 4?

Hmm... I'd say that the issue is more that trope is both overused and used in a way that has unfortunate implications.

Speaking of the trope, I thought the latest Avatar handled it rather well. Pretty surprising for a children's show, really. They sure didn't make cartoons like that when I was young.
