timppu: I don't have Machinarium yet, so I disagree. Sorry if I don't want to buy it from e.g. Steam.
bazilisek: How about directly from the developer, DRM free and with soundtrack included? Bitching "I got the game already from elsewhere, why is GOG getting it too?" is about as silly as me bitching that GOG should not release any games that I already have on CD, or that Steam should not release any older games that GOG already sells. Why is Steam selling Machinarium anyway, as it is available from the developer as well? Or is it "not just the same thing"?
As long as there is some class with the games GOG releases (and they are DRM-free), the more the merrier.
I don't think the older HIBs are sold anymore.

timppu: I can't, because the consensus seems to be in this discussion that $10 is far too much for the game because it has been always available everywhere for a couple of cents or something. So it should be max $5.99, or death! (+ the promo discount of course).
Twisting your arguments much? You said you didn't want to buy the game on Steam. Me, SimonG and jamyskis merely pointed out no one is forcing you to. That's it. Also, no one is saying that GOG shouldn't release Machinarium. We're just saying that it's not a release anyone could really get excited about. Which frankly is what most of the bitching is about -- not every GOG release is Anachronox, and the release schedule really should take that into account.

So I feel it is very positive GOG releases it too, seems an interesting game. Too bad if that is a problem for those who bought it from elsewhere earlier.

I think you're getting a little confused with people's intentions, or at least with mine. None of us have a "problem" with having bought it elsewhere. Our problem (or should I say my problem) is with the fact that I/we want GOG to do well and don't think a game that has already been thrashed up and down indie bundles (in DRM free form, no less) and discounted deals is really a good starting point for a successful launch.

timppu: And I still say: the more the merrier. Do you guys think that this release(?) will prevent releasing some other games on GOG, as if they are running out of hard disk space on GOG servers or something?
You really should read the topic and the replies better. It's good that Machinarium and others are coming to GOG. It's just not a big deal. That's it. They should just release a lot of them at once. I don't think anyone is actually saying "I got the game already from elsewhere, why is GOG getting it too?". I for one am 100% for GOG to get into the indie market and look forward to actual new releases.
Oh, and I think it's delaying the release of other games, not preventing.Big difference, still deserving a good whine.

jamyskis: No they're not, but it's a given that ownership of the game is extremely widespread by now.
Actually a few weeks ago I found them offered in the Humble Store, but for the horrendous sum of $100 per bundle, and when I checked just now the links weren't working anymore. ;) Anyway, I payed more than $10 for a retail version of Machinarium and despite not having played through it yet, I didn't regret it one bit. The artwork alone is worth it, and most picture books cost a lot more than $10 (at least over here). I don't mind Machinarium coming to GOG, but I agree with others who've said that contrary to other games you already can get it DRM-free at a fair price, directly from the developers.

Yah, I've seen the retail version and it is definitively worth the slightly higher price, as do a lot of the recent retail titles which have seemed to give a bit more attention to good presentation. I picked up The Binding of Isaac Unholy Edition for €15 despite already having it from the bundle because I wanted the soundtrack on CD. It was fucking awesome and that picture...that picture...
I'm not sure how the Machinarium game itself was with regards to DRM mind you, but I know that The Binding of Isaac had the perfect combination - DRM-free on the CD and a Steam key. I gave my girlfriend the key because I already had it on my account.

The forum is in desperate need of overhauling, especially the search functionality, and the search engine for the games themselves is a little barebones.

Yeah, but by "design" you usually mean "looks" , not coding....

I bought the UK Collector's Edition and it came with soundtrack and bonus soundtrack cds, booklet with concept art and printed walkthrough and A3 poster. It doesn't feature a Steam key, but it's completely DRM-free in such a way that you don't even need the disc, you can just copy the game files to your harddisk. (That was maybe a month before it was featured in HIB 2, but I still don't regret the purchase.)Post edited March 21, 2012 by Leroux
