bpops: Riven was always by far my favorite of the Myst series -- so incredibly engrossing. It's also the hardest imo, too.
Please bring Exile to GOG, then I can get rid of my Myst Trilogy box!!
I'm totally indifferent about Revelation, as I found that one quite boring and not up to par with the previous 3 :(
I love Revelation: It truly felt
alive to me, on an aesthetic and textile level. I thought the story was excellent, a great way to finish the saga (I really dont like End of Ages). The puzzles were incredibly hard, especially the very last one. Revelation had my attention from that monorail car ride to the very end.
This does not devalue or disparage Riven, which I thought was beautiful in every aspect, and its world rich with mysterious life. Only once did we see what its inhabitants looked like (those small spherical houses above the submarine puzzle), if we were lucky, and it only added to our interest. I love that we could never understood what the people we saw told us, as though we were truly alien in every respect, and this gave way to fear, and not knowing who was there to help, or who was working for Gehn. In every respect, Riven was a sequel that built upon and expanded the original, almost overshadowing it completely.
