How playable is this with mouse + keyboard? Just for some possibly meager comparison, I prefer playing Freespace and Starlancer that way.

Ravenger: ...

Any chance you would have access to a couple of cover art images for our unofficial DVD covers? Found some but the quality was very poor as you might expect. Had to ask . . . =)

It plays okay just fine with keyboard. I don't remember if there was mouse steering at all, you can use mouse to interact with some of the ship interface. I-War 2 (which I'm hoping to see here soon!) however is almost unplayable without a joystick
And lots of respect to Ravenger! Too bad you probably won't get anything from this release, but I'm sure you are already a millionaire for working on such a popular series ;)

Ah I-War, one of my favorite capital ship space sim games -- the other being Klingon Academy. I'm so glad GoG got this one, and even though I already own it on disk, I'm totally buying it.
Now if you guys could get Klingon Academy, I'd love y'all forever. That game is the shiznit. Even more complex than I-War but still fun (unlike the Battlecruiser 3000 series of games).

The what? I played I-War 2 using keyboard and it was great.
This is definitely a win. The I-War games broke the mould of space sims either always having to be Wing Commander shoot-em-ups or sterile Elite clones. Instead, Particle Systems took the route of bringing flight-sim complexity into the genre; I-War is a lot closer to Falcon that it is to Wing Commander or Freespace.
That being said, it was and still is not everyone's cup of tea.

When I saw this game, you could hear very loud 'woow' at my room ;). Now good joystick might be handy, I don't wan't to decrease gameplay even a bit by playing on keyboard. I played quite a lot in I-War 2 on Saitek X52 but unfortumatelly sold it :/. Anyway it's awasome game definately worth buying, realistic phisics isn't that difficult and it raises joy from playing very much.
I bought this without realizing that it would be rather difficult without a joystick. Is there any way to rebind the keys. I'm playing on my laptop, and pg dn is turn right, and end is turn left, but they're in a vertical row, so it's incredibly awkward. The inverted up/down view is also throwing me off.
Ah, well. I was planning on buying a joystick this summer anyway, for freespace 2. would a logitech attack 3 do fine for I-war, or should i invest in the saitek x-52? My budget's a bit tight for the saitek...

If only... It was moderately successful but never sold megabucks, so you can safely assume I'm not a millionaire!
Yes, I won't be getting a penny out of this release, but you know what? I'm just happy for the game to be on sale again. I didn't enter the games business to make money, I did it because I want people to play and enjoy the games I made. I get a kick out of seeing stuff I've worked on in the shops and for sale online. But of course making money while doing it is necessary too. :-)
And always remember that I was only one of a number of people who worked on I-War, so I can't take credit for the series. Main credit must go to Michael Powell and Glyn Williams who designed the original game and their team who made the original I-War release: Rich Aidley, Andy Turner, Matt Clark and Michael Todd. I joined them just in time for the US release and did some work helping getting the game upgraded for the US market.
For the Deluxe edition I was the Defiance project lead, but my co-designer was a guy called James Moore, one of the most creative guys I've ever had the pleasure to work with.

You can edit the keybindings manually by editing one of the games files. I can't remember which one it is right now as I don't currently have the game installed.

I already own two copies of this. Might buy it if it has hardware acceleration support for modern graphic chipsets (the original only had 3dfx support), and if I would come across a great deal of money.
It's one of the best space sims of all time though, so anybody who hasn't played it already should try it out. The visual style of the game is just awesome. I love the graffiti painted rebel ships, and the ship designs. And that cgi intro sequence, while extremely low res, still is really beautiful.
You guys could have totally gotten away with charging $9.99 on this one. :P Thank you none-the-less.

You don't need to buy x-52 but Aviator or some newer Cyborg is good minimum.
honest question: i own i-war 2 already, why should i buy this too?
i don't really know its quality, perhaps this one is better than the second, just asking.

They're similar, but different. I-War 1 is more "focused" than the sequel, for lack of a better word. My memories are fuzzy (I played both a long time ago), but I remember enjoying Independence War 1 more than I did the sequel.
There's no economic aspect to the game unlike I-war 2. You are a soldier, here. Because of that I-War one is sufficiently different from I-War2. This is a more traditional simulation, focusing on a military campaign. So the whole story line is different from I-War 2, the missons have a different feel, the setting is different, and it provides both a bit of backstory to I-war 2 and another perspective on the I-War universe in general.
