Duffi: Oh God yes. I've been waiting for this one. How is the English voice-acting? I heard it was non-existant, but I guess not.
frostcircus: It's quite charming. I wouldn't say it's
amazing exactly, but the choice of dialects/accents is genius, and makes the game sound like no other RPG out there.
Which is why the generic videogame delivery of the voice acting in G3 was a fucking travesty.
Allow me to quote Wikipedia on that.
While Gothic II received very high reviews in the German press, it did not fare that well in North America, where it received high ratings, too, but also negative reviews. One of the reasons for the overall worse reviews were the graphics. The translation of the script and the voice acting in the English version were also criticized, and were felt by critics to be out of place and poorer than in the German version. Much of the voice acting criticism falls upon the change in the voice for the character Diego. I guess that a reviewer who can compare German and English voice acting is likely to be German, thus biased. But... you never know.
So I REALLY want to buy this game on GOG.com. But I guess I'll have to wait for a definite statement from the staff concerning the German version.
