If you don't install the expansion at first and play through the game and then install the expansion, do you have to re-start your game or can you just continue into the expansion? I'm just curious since I've read it changes the gameplay a bit
Too bad I already have it. Is one of the best RPGs I've ever played.

You have to restart, but the main game is changed significantly enough that this is a good thing, not a bad.

Coelocanth: You can choose to install only the base game if you want.

Oh, that's great. Thanks. :)
Oh God yes. I've been waiting for this one. How is the English voice-acting? I heard it was non-existant, but I guess not.
Haven't played it yet, Duffi, so can't comment on the English voice acting.

It's quite charming. I wouldn't say it's amazing exactly, but the choice of dialects/accents is genius, and makes the game sound like no other RPG out there.
Which is why the generic videogame delivery of the voice acting in G3 was a fucking travesty.

Very nice, I'd been planning on buying Spellforce as soon as I got back from work today, but this will do quite nicely in its place. Now I just have to finish Disciples 2 and Arx Fatalis, play through the first Gothic, and I'll be ready to start on Gothic 2. I don't suppose there's much of a chance of the world changing to a 30 hour day anytime soon, is there?
Yay! After being fully satisfied with G1, I've been looking forward to this release, esp since everyone says it's even better than 1. I'll give Arx Fatalis and Painkiller another weekish before I pick this puppy up.
Def on my To Get list. Even if I have not started the last two games I purchased online.
Free Time: Can I have some?
OMG, how could I miss this one when it released? Just test played an hour and it’s better than what I expected…

Allow me to quote Wikipedia on that.
While Gothic II received very high reviews in the German press, it did not fare that well in North America, where it received high ratings, too, but also negative reviews. One of the reasons for the overall worse reviews were the graphics. The translation of the script and the voice acting in the English version were also criticized, and were felt by critics to be out of place and poorer than in the German version. Much of the voice acting criticism falls upon the change in the voice for the character Diego.
I guess that a reviewer who can compare German and English voice acting is likely to be German, thus biased. But... you never know.
So I REALLY want to buy this game on GOG.com. But I guess I'll have to wait for a definite statement from the staff concerning the German version.

Sorry, we're offering only the English version of the game.

I think that qualifies as definite :-).
Gothic has to be the weirdest series of games I have ever played. It seems to strike a perfect balance between being incredibly frustrating and exceedingly fun. Bizarre and entertaining at the same time.
