Whether you're a trigger-happy arcade maniac or a well-trained armchair pilot, [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/apache_longbow]Apache Longbow is the game for you for, and it’s only $5.99 on GOG.com

Apache is a combat flight simulator of the American AH-64D Apache Longbow, one of the deadliest flying machines to ever grace the skies. What’s really great about Apache is that it’s so easy to fly (in game, that is, not in real life ;) if you select “arcade mode” and so realistically complex if you decide to select “simulation mode”; the game offers both types of gamers a whoop-whoop-whooping joyride. The game offers only one copter to pilot but your enemies aren’t so limited: Russian tanks, anti-aircraft systems, missiles, Mi-24 Hind helicopters, AH-1 Super Cobra helicopters, MiG-29 fighters and more. Detailed training missions will teach you everything you need to know before your Apache is sent to Korea, Yemen, or Cyprus for a whole lotta flying!

Apache Longbow was a successful simulation because it combined terrific flight model with simple and great gameplay. Explosions or ground models might not look impressive to modern eyes, but the game has incredible gameplay and countless options and missions. You simply don’t get better copters than Apache Longbow for $5.99 on GOG.com. Pick it up today!
Welcome to our new game :)

Avogadro6: Funny to read that flight sims are considered niche products. Maybe now, but they were extremely popular back in the 90's.
flight sims are definitely a niche product today. you can tell by the fact that there is a grand total 1.35 flight sims coming out per year.

Avogadro6: Apache and Hind were among the best of the genre, they may look primitive by today's standards (and well, I concour) but as for playability goes I don't think they have ever been surpassed.
agreed, but they already looked fairly primitive even back then. i remember playing Apache Longbow and Hind when they were still pretty new and couldn't stand the graphics. even AH-64D Longbow looked better IMO, and that game is ancient. as for playability, i think the Gunship, Comanche and Jane's series are better but that too may be subjective.

I think I remember they were kind of buggy though...

mrkgnao: It's a good start, but it's not enough. You will still get people with hurt feelings because of "good" games that cost too much [a.k.a. as the "WTF-9.99-FOR-THIS-???" syndrome]. I suggest we improve upon your suggestion and have GOG send $9.99 to every registered user before every new release so that users would not have to spend their own hard-earned money on GOG.

But then people who haven't even heard of GOG might get hurt too. Better send them $9.99 too, just in case. I am sure this will make GOG a huge success.
You're right, of course. And what's more, what if some random guy hears about GOG and enters the site thinking "hey, let's see if I like this GOG thing" and then he's like "WTF Apache Longbow??!! This sucks! Wait till the guys hear of it in the internez!"
No, it's too risky. GOG has only one way out of this problem: they need to get the approval of every user in the WWW before any and all releases.
GOG, we don't need more helicopter sims, we need a Space Shuttle sim for the inner astronaut in all of us. So please consider getting Shuttle: The Space Flight Simulator

Yup. I never thought I'd say that, but I miss the time when Microsoft used to relase its simulator every year. :S

That looks very impressive, too bad my pc can't handle it. :)
Sorry not for me this one, althouh a Falcon 4.0 or below release would be nice
Oohhh, I loved this game back in the day. If you guys get Hind, y'all will be my best friends forever and ever. :)

derailedition: excellent. can never have enough sims. or strategy games, gog definitely needs more strategy games.

have there been any hints about the legacy of kain games at all? can't remember seeing that. there are pc versions of all of those, right? I've never played any of them.
Both Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver series were fully released on PC and would be welcomed here by me as well. There's 5 games in total with the most modern 2 looking like recent games imo.

piduca: At first, sorry for my bad English.

If I'm not wrong, GOG means "Good Old Games"... But it seems that Gog team is not caring too much about the first "G" at all. It is becoming little and little each last days, and by now it needs to be written with lowercase...
Of course that there are people who like this thing; and of course I will be "burned" by some fans for what I will write... But something is telling me that, sooner than you can imagine, this game will be offered for free - and, even then, it will be a waste of bandwidth.
Come on, gOG, lets uppercase the first "G" before it vanishes!
This IS a good game, silly. Just because YOU don't care for it don't mean it's not good. :P
Wohoooo!

Man, i spend the 90´s with DI simulations.
Plan your missions, fiddle with the weapons loadout.
I loved their style - no textures or very unobtrusive ones.
Textures in those days often looked worse than DI´s style.

Hoping for Hind, F-16. Oh! and maybe Tornado - i was never able to free enough memory to run that one.

Thanks GOG, a very happy Felix

liquidsnakehpks: Novalogic = extremely boring IMHO. People who tried to make simulators accesible, and managed to make them just dull.
avatar
derailedition: would still be nice to have novalogic stuff. a couple of the delta force games, comanche and the space sim are great. damn, forgot the title of the space game.
I'm torn over this release. As a former flight-simmer, I appreciate GoG throwing a bone to the super-niche crowd. But on the other hand, GoG already has AvH and CvH, which are direct descendants of the DI Apache and Hind sims ("direct", as in Razorworks being all ex-DI developers), so I really don't see the point.
Cool release. It would have been fun to learn to fly a helicopter but first I would want to buy a joystick, learn to fly a WW2 plane in IL-2 Sturmovik™: 1946 and blast Iron Maiden - Aces High, Blood Axis - Reign I Forever, Death in June - Winter Eagle and Metallica - Blitzkrieg.

With my massive backlog I don't know when I will take the time for that even. Currently I've been having a blast going back to Doom 2 and Civ 2.

piduca: snip
As someone else already said, just because you don't like old simulations or simulations at all, it doesn't mean that nobody else do. As far as I remember this was considered a very good game.
