amok: Maybe it is best to wait and see what the game actually is before casting ny judgement? It may very possibly be crap, but there is just nothing much known about it at all. Innocent until proven guilty, and so on.
There's two currencies and a XP bar, also its only being released on IOS only devices. Now, I'm not speaking doom but let's talley things up.

More than likely, this is going to involve some form of horrible microtransaction scheme.

amok: Since you guys have apparently already played it and have some pretty damning things to say, what about a little bit more of a review? Just what is the "price gouching" involved and just what makes it so terrible?
Oh come on. Mobile game, Facebook integration. I mean yeah wait and see and I could be wrong(hopefully), but those are big red flags.

two options:

1 - judge something which is not actually completed, rant and rave about things we do not yet know and running like headless chickens. (And thereby actually giving the bloody thing some PR.)

2 - Wait and see until the thing is released so it shows what it actually is.

I know option 1 is more fun

avatar
amok: neither do I, but I do actually refuse to cast judgment on something not actually completed yet. I will wait until the game is released.

ChrisSD: That's fair enough but I can very much understand people's scepticism.
I am very sceptic, but I have yet to see whether it is actually a terrible mobile game yet, and how much gauging the microtransactions are going to be.

For all we know, it may be a good mobile game, with generous and sensible microtransactions. (I am not holding my breath, though.) We just do not know yet.

Fair enough, but seriously.

Because it seems to be a F2P social garbage just like those facebook games in which you need to wait 20 hours until you can do something. Unless you pay, of course. No, just no. This "concept" is fundametally broken.

If it were a buy to play mobile title i would be willing to forgive it. Even though RCT is a PC franchise, it would definitely work on a touch screen device perfectly. Being a mobile game isn't the problem, i do play some games on my Xperia Play and iPod Touch every now and then. The problem is that it seems to be a F2P social game.

I have already played some of these "social" facebook/mobile type of games and i know how flawed and broken they are. I haven't found any that was slightly enjoyable. I'm not even against facebook games, mind you. The platform doesn't matter. Even facebook does have a few examples of F2P games done right (check Chronoblade and King's Road, for example). The problem is with all those games inspired by Farmville and other shit from Zynga. They basically have no gameplay involved AT ALL. You just click on stuff and wait for hours until you can click on more stuff and that's it. If you can't wait until you can click on more stuff you need to pay. They basically took the model that had already been used by strategy browser games, took off everything that made them fun (like, you know, the strategy element) and made it a cash cow.

I've already played quite a few facebook games. I'm not the type of guy who judges things without experiencing them first. Most of them have no gameplay at all. Like i said you just click on stuff and build your own base/house/farm/whatever so you can brag to your "friends" how cool your virtual base/house/farm/whatever looks. And that's it.

And even some of the games that do have some cool gameplay elements, like Avengers Alliance (the turn-based combat is pretty cool and requires quite a bit of strategy), for example, rely on energy systems and pay walls. You keep hitting a pay wall every time, and if you don't want to pay you will have to grind a lot, and to make things worse YOU CAN'T grind because there is a TIME LIMIT implemented by an energy system as well. Same goes for every other game i tried.

Look at the trailer for RCT4. Did you notice the little "+" buttons right next to the resources counter? Sounds like pay 2 win BS by me. Remember how important it was in RCT to manage your resources? Now you don't have to, as long as you pay for it. They're turning a cheat into an essential gameplay feature. Oh, remember that the trailer said something like being able to compete on online leaderboards? Guess who will be the top players? The more skilled players or the ones with the most cash to burn? It's not too hard to notice that the top players will be the ones who spend the most money since they will have unlimited resources. This concept is completely broken.

And now they have the audacity to call it RCT4? I mean, seriously? Why not call it RCT Social or something else like EA did with Simcity and The Sims?

Go play some facebook "games" yourself and tell me how enjoyable they are. Evil Genious alone was enough to leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

I haven't played the game yet, but i do have many reasons to believe it will be crap. And i'm 99% sure i'll turn out to be right. And even when it gets released i won't waste my time with it. Social games suck and i doubt RCT4 will be an exception to the rule.

3 things:

1 - Your post starts from "seems to be [...]"

2 - This is an iPhone game, not Facebook

3 - I have played quite a lot of Facebook games - 95% of them are horrible crap. But some are actually good, and at the moment I am enjoying "The Tribez" with my morning coffee (even though it has that horrible "z" thing going for it in the end)
I'm still waiting a patch for alone in the dark 2009 from atari xD
Them turning one of my favourite PC franchises of all time into mobile rubbish is infuriating. Hate mobile games more and more by the minute. It's even worse than developers dumbing down PC games for consoles a few years back, at least they weren't F2P, microtransactional rubbish. Now I really hope Atari goes bankrupt.

They did release it. It's called Alone in the Dark Inferno and it's exclusive to the PS3. And no, i'm not kidding. The "Inferno" edition is an updated version of the Xbox 360/PC release.

Unless they released the wrong trailer to the public, what i said is right. You will be able to buy resources with money. You shouldn't be able to buy resources in a RCT game because, well, managing resources is one of the most important things in a RCT game. It will all come down to who has the most real money to burn on this game to build the most awesome things.

Not to menton the famous "pay or wait mechanic" which will probably appear as well.

The social mobile games are exactly the same as social facebook games. The platform doesn't matter. Some of them are even crossplatform.

So what? We know for sure that yoy will be able to buy resources with real money just by looking at the trailer. This alone is already an insult to the RCT games. The "pay or wait" will just add up to the pile of crap.
