amok: Maybe it is best to wait and see what the game actually
is before casting ny judgement? It may very possibly be crap, but there is just nothing much known about it at all. Innocent until proven guilty, and so on.
Because it seems to be a F2P social garbage just like those facebook games in which you need to wait 20 hours until you can do something. Unless you pay, of course. No, just no. This "concept" is fundametally broken.
If it were a buy to play mobile title i would be willing to forgive it. Even though RCT is a PC franchise, it would definitely work on a touch screen device perfectly. Being a mobile game isn't the problem, i do play some games on my Xperia Play and iPod Touch every now and then. The problem is that it seems to be a F2P social game.
I have already played some of these "social" facebook/mobile type of games and i know how flawed and broken they are. I haven't found any that was slightly enjoyable. I'm not even against facebook games, mind you. The platform doesn't matter. Even facebook does have a few examples of F2P games done right (check Chronoblade and King's Road, for example). The problem is with all those games inspired by Farmville and other shit from Zynga. They basically have no gameplay involved AT ALL. You just click on stuff and wait for hours until you can click on more stuff and that's it. If you can't wait until you can click on more stuff you need to pay. They basically took the model that had already been used by strategy browser games, took off everything that made them fun (like, you know, the strategy element) and made it a cash cow.
I've already played quite a few facebook games. I'm not the type of guy who judges things without experiencing them first. Most of them have no gameplay at all. Like i said you just click on stuff and build your own base/house/farm/whatever so you can brag to your "friends" how cool your virtual base/house/farm/whatever looks. And that's it.
And even some of the games that do have some cool gameplay elements, like Avengers Alliance (the turn-based combat is pretty cool and requires quite a bit of strategy), for example, rely on energy systems and pay walls. You keep hitting a pay wall every time, and if you don't want to pay you will have to grind a lot, and to make things worse YOU CAN'T grind because there is a TIME LIMIT implemented by an energy system as well. Same goes for every other game i tried.
Look at the trailer for RCT4. Did you notice the little "+" buttons right next to the resources counter? Sounds like pay 2 win BS by me. Remember how important it was in RCT to manage your resources? Now you don't have to, as long as you pay for it. They're turning a cheat into an essential gameplay feature. Oh, remember that the trailer said something like being able to compete on online leaderboards? Guess who will be the top players? The more skilled players or the ones with the most cash to burn? It's not too hard to notice that the top players will be the ones who spend the most money since they will have unlimited resources. This concept is completely broken.
And now they have the audacity to call it RCT4? I mean, seriously? Why not call it RCT Social or something else like EA did with Simcity and The Sims?
Go play some facebook "games" yourself and tell me how enjoyable they are. Evil Genious alone was enough to leave a bitter taste in my mouth.
I haven't played the game yet, but i do have many reasons to believe it will be crap. And i'm 99% sure i'll turn out to be right. And even when it gets released i won't waste my time with it. Social games suck and i doubt RCT4 will be an exception to the rule.
