You're trying to play it like other games when it's not meant to be played that way. The pacing is deliberately smooth and constant, and that's achieved by the way you don't have to pause for a load every time you fall too far. You could do the same thing anyway with a quicksave button in any game, but that's irrelevant.
It's obviously not meant to be challenging, which means they weren't using challenge as a reward. That means you're not looking for the same things the designers meant to give you, so you're not getting the most out of the game. Maybe you aren't motivated to meet the game on its own terms, but that doesn't make it a bad game, it just means that it's not compatible with your tastes.

To be fair though, that IS the most common meaning of "it sucks", wether the speaker actually intended it that way or not.

I bought PoP because it was DRM free, I support any release without DRM by purchasing it. Yeah, yeah, I know . . . anyway, I had never played the PoP series and so I didn't install it right away. Found myself enjoying the game, to my surprise, very different from the FPS's and RPG's I usually play.
I played it off and on for several days until reaching a spot in the City of Light. I couldn't progress beyond that point since the wall running/ jumping would always fail, tried many, many , MANY attempts and failed every time. I thought it must be a bug since the previous game play was so smooth and a fail could be mastered in several attempts. No patches that I could find. I have not played it since . . . it went from a fun game to a frustrating game in an instant . . . might give it another try someday. It was nice that it supported an XBox controller.
It's obvious that it wasn't designed with hardcore gamers in mind so . . . nothing to debate there.

Couldn't agree more. Terribly well said. :)
I still have to say, that the new PoP is a bit of a disappointment for me. It has gorgeous and original graphics, but I can't get rid of the feeling that I am playing a guitar-hero kind of game, that is all about pressing the right buttons at the right time. Also, the uber-combo fights are strange... have you noticed that the moves don't really fit together? There is often a small cut right after you press a button and the combos seem to me a bit like a series of unrelated animations.
But I will stop my whining :) I still went through the game and enjoyed it a lot, especially the great characters :) And there was something cool about finishing a chain of 30 jumps :D But I was really missing the freeform fighting that was so awesome in Warrior Within. SoT was for me a bit simplistic and Two Thrones simplified on the other hand :) But Warrior Within had it right... just a few buttons, few moves, awesome dual-wield system and the rest is up to the player :)

wouldn't it have been awesome if they had made warrior within in the same world as new PoP without the emo prince? it's like they go all the elements right but they did it over the course of several games and never really pulled them together.

captfitz: Warrior Within with more environmental puzzles already exists: It is called Two Thrones :p
Honestly, I think that Warrior Within was perfect, for a combat-heavy PoP game. The only complaint I have is the voice actor. Did I prefer Sands of Time and Two Thrones? Definitely. But if the goal was to make a PoP with a heavy emphasis on combat, Warrior Within was perfect.
Yeah, it was over the top (Godsmack? Really?) and had a woman with a metal thong. But so what? Sands of Time had The Prince rip off his clothes for no apparent reason throughout the game.
Well, that is wrong. There was a reason. In fact, I suspect that The Prince was pointing at her every time he looked at her.
That is a lewd comment, for those who are a bit slow :p
With regard to the new PoP: It was entertaining for a bit (and I liked the interactions of The Guy Who Isn't Actually A Prince and Elke (or whatever her name was)), but I just lost interest and grabbed a trainer to get enough light seeds to grab all the powers and unlock the areas. Was rather disappointed by the final boss, but the unhappy ending was a nice change of pace. Kind of wish that the DLC would come out for the PC (or I could find someone just playing through it online, without commentary).

Oh man, the new POP is so repetitive in nature..... if it wasn't, maybe I'd be able to forgive the complete lack of challenge. Game sucks. It looks nice... sometimes... and I like some of the animations for the fighting, but there's no substance to any of it. You are reduced to collecting light orbs in areas you've already been through, watching the same exact animations over and over without any stimulation other than how "fluid" it looks. And honestly, I think the animation in Sands of Time rocked the **** out of this new one.
I really enjoyed the new PoP.
Having a different boss at each location would have been nice, rather than fighting the same 4 (5 including that guy at the temple) bosses 6 times each was kind of boring. However, the Warrior boss was kind of a cool idea, but the only way to beat him was to stand by a ledge, have him try to knock you off, then after mashing the Sword button, you roll around him and push him off the ledge by mashing the Sword button again.
I thought the animations were pretty good, like if Elika fell on the Prince, he'd catch her. But sometimes they were annoying, like when Elika has to get on the Prince's back every time you get on vines. Or waiting for Elika to help you push the levers.
The ending was a huge WTF moment, it really wasn't what I was expecting, so it was cool.
I too also wish the DLC was available for PC. :(

Makes sense when you put it like that, I guess. I think I'm not really into this kind of game but I'll try and get back into it with this new mentality. I like challenges in my games (even better if they get progressively harder) and if a game is this easy I just feel like I haven't accomplished much out of it.

The problem is that "Not compatible with your tastes" clearly outlines the subjectivity, whereas "It sucks" seems to indicate an objectivity.
I loved the 2008 reboot of PoP. It was the first Prince of Persia game I'd ever bought. I got the PS3 version, and later bought the Epilogue DLC, and loved the entire experience. I liked the combat and the platforming, and my favorite part was the brilliant dialogue. My only gripe was that the game, (including the DLC) ended on a cliffhanger, and they are not planning to finish the story anytime soon (the next PoP will continue the Sands of Time storyline, which bites).
I do think that they should have put the DLC on the PC (as a PS3 owner, who has gotten the shaft on many games in regards to DLC, I HATE it when companies release a multi-platform game, and only sell the DLC to certain consoles; it needs to stop). And, after playing the demo of Bayonetta, I have a solution for those who hated the control scheme: give players a choice. In Bayonetta, you can choose to play the game "normally," or play it in "automatic mode." The latest PoP reminds me of Bayonetta's automatic mode; so, just give players a choice. Those of us (like me) who liked the "automatic" control scheme can just keep that, and everyone else can play the game like a "normal" platformer. That way, everyone is happy.

Yeah, it's not about punishment vs success, it's about the experience of it. Hope you get into it. :)

I've heard two different teams are developing the games, so it may be out sooner than you think.
And yeah, I'm extremely pissed about the DLC. I love the game but it honestly makes me wish they hadn't released it at all on PC...if I'm not going to get the full experience, I'd rather spend my money on other things. Course I couldn't have known that. Arghhh.
Have to disagree very strongly on the automatic mode though, that shit is for braindead yuppies. :P

I enjoyed it, as I enjoyed Sands of Times (even Warrior Within had its moments, for those able to tone out its setting). The visuals certainly improved the experience, but it is fun regardless.
I hate the prince of persia games.
just got the new one though, haven't played it before.
got it cheap thru go gamer.
I'll tell you what I think of it after I play it
