Fuzzyfireball: Pay me in pizza, beer and GOGs. I'll sleep in the lobby!
Count me in!!!

keeveek: Well, minimum wage is minimum wage. People rampage about children working in China for $1 a day, but working for $0 is ok?
Well nothing is forcing you to take the job, to be fair when you play videogames and can work a videocamera you're not really that bad off. If it were 'Either work here for 2 cents an hour or don't have any money at all!' I'd probably think of that as of exploiting, but if you actually need money, heh, you just won't apply for this.

keeveek: But as I've said, I don't have anything against free internship, only the way it was presented by TET (like a job not "worth" being paid for)
Well... TET did a fairly ... Unfortunate job presenting it. I think that what he basically meant wasn't that he could just easily do it himself, what he wanted to say is that company is basically offering some work experience and look at how GOG works internally for something it could easily do without. He could have used better wording tho.

Ghostfromthepast: I would love applying the position, that's exactly what I've been looking for, but for free? No, thanks!

Offer me a place to crash, 3 meals a day, the whole games catalog and i might consider it. (oh, and don't forget the blue letters :P ).
I would scrap the blue letters in exchange for the nice looking secretary.

I think we may agree on this.

Although, unemployment rates are very high in Poland (around 14%), and a lot of companies take advantage from it by paying shit or nothing to people who have no job opportunities at all (especially young people), but I believe GOG isn't such company.

I would be really happy if I could do an intern like that for GOG, but if I was said that my job isn't worth shit, I don't know if I would still have the enthusiasm :P

And such words were said by a person who is PR manager, you could expect him to form his opinions in a more polite form >.<

And even if they don't offer money, free GOGs would be more than enough as a payment! :D

Yeah, they should give the job to me.

Oh wait, I already have one! I'm awesome!

Fenixp: Well, as far as I'm concerned, if you go and work for a company which has clearly stated that you will not get paid and then sue them for not paying you, you're the dick. I don't like it and this has kind of hurt GOG's image in my eyes, but at least they're upfront about it.
I don't know how polish laws work, but in many countries such contract would be illegal. You can't have someone to work for you for free.

is there a cave or a ruined castle nearby? as a dragon i really need one of those to sleep in. (a dwarven mine is fine as well but those are almost always occupied by another dragon already)

also, can you give me some gold treasure? i don't want to keep it, i just sleep better when i have some gold next to me.

And still, if a company tells you that you won't get paid and you accept anyway, seeing you will have no profit whatsoever, and then sue the company, you're a dick. Circumstances are hardly forcing you to take the job since you won't get any money at all and the company is upfront with you, so if you don't like it, why on earth would you take the job (other than to get the money out of said company trough a lawsuit)

That doesn't make sense. The point of minimum wage legislation is to protect workers from exploitation. If you could contract out the rights you are given by such legislation, it would be pointless.

bevinator: Wait, have you guys never heard of unpaid internships before?
Yes, I've heard of them. I've also heard of dangerous working environments and workplace bullying, but that doesn't mean they're OK (or legal).

But that's just it - circumstances often do force people to take the job. In many sectors here in the UK it's getting harder and harder to get even the lowliest of paid jobs if you don't have any experience (even if you have good qualifications), which employers will only give you if you work for free.

12 hours a week? I'm disappointed because I'm only getting 40 in my current job. Bummer. There's 168 hours in a week. I need to find a second job.

TheEnigmaticT: We're looking for an intern to set up lights and record video games; it's not really a position that's *worth* paying for. And I believe it would be the only intern who's currently working at the company.
My point was more that GOG seems to be asking for fewer interns than many German developers, who seem to have large swathes of dev teams composed of interns who remain uncredited and unpaid for their work. It's why the German gaming industry at the moment is undergoing something of a crisis.

That being said, the attitude that any work is "not worth paying for" is not a particularly admirable attitude. An intern has the right to expect to learn something and be actively taught by staff in exchange for investing that kind of time on your behalf. The way you worded it there makes it seem as though GOG's primary motivation in this regard is the free work. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
perhaps instead of saying " we are not paying you!", TET should have said:
"your payement will not be in money. Instead your payment will come in the form of experience and wisdom, which was according to certain greek philisopher worth more than all the gold in the world"
