I get annoyed when Israel often is reported in the media as the only democratic country in the Middle East when Lebanon too is a democracy. A bit more fragile though, but still. And there is a new player in town as well.

SimonG: Does Football count?
Well if you count football in we have regressed and gone back to tribal warfare. But it is somewhat better to bump around plastic balls than bump around heads don't you think?

Very interesting statement.. I'd invite you to read the curialisation theory by Anthropologist, Norbert Elias, if I didn't suspect you knew it already.
You sir are either very well informed in Geopolitics, or very intelligent (both could apply).

PS : Sorry, I meant to quote SimonG original post about foot, not Sargon's answer.

What! Are you implying that my football comment does not show that I am very well informed in Geopolitics and very intelligent?!? (both does apply!)

Count me as offended!

Na, I just watch a lot of porn. You would be surprised what stuff you can learn if you actually listen to the dialogues ....

That's true. Once I saw a brunette, a blonde and a redhead discussing the development of free will and original sin in Christianity throughout the ages while some bearded men mounted them from behind. I think all three of them were theologians, or at least theology students.

I think Edu-Pornography could have become a big genre in Soviet Russia or Eastern Germany.

lol now we are making sense, see this is education in its purest form
The bottom line is that the occupation on the Gaza Strip is completely without cause, and the fact that the West supports it is an absolute travesty. What is even more baffling is the fact that western support originates from several high powered officials who use their evangelical beliefs as primary decision making devices, ie, that the Jews must inhabit the holy Land to bring about the rapture.

Scary, scary stuff. Israel is an artificial construct, and while I respect their right to exist, they will never have peace until they withdraw to 1967 boundaries.
Oh Allah dammit!
And of course the USA, UK and the rest of NATO will probably back Israel for some reason on this.

Why we continue to support that lunatic state is beyond me. The entire middle-east is howling mad now.
Looks like they're building up for a ground war for sure now.
Most interesting about all of this, is how quite the whole PLO remains ...

I wonder if there is some hidden agenda going around ;-).

Well I guess that it is a good thing then that the occupation of Gaza ended seven years ago.

Another "well informed opinion" I guess. What's next, asking for the US withdrawal from Iraq?

Don't know if the blockade is entirely without cause given the Hamas and some other factions, but it might not seem to work very well either.

This might apply to some people on the Christian right in the U.S., but how many else could you put that label on?

I get the impression that there is substantial responsibility to be found on both sides of this conflict. Israel must defend itself, and warfare in densely populated areas against a foe hiding among civilians can be quite difficult with a high probability of collateral damage. However, and as far as I know, the Israeli state is hardly without responsibility when considering the background for all this.

The entire EU issued support for Israel yesterday, I am pretty sure.
