I get annoyed when Israel often is reported in the media as the only democratic country in the Middle East when Lebanon too is a democracy. A bit more fragile though, but still. And there is a new player in town as well.

The bottom line is that the occupation on the Gaza Strip is completely without cause, and the fact that the West supports it is an absolute travesty. What is even more baffling is the fact that western support originates from several high powered officials who use their evangelical beliefs as primary decision making devices, ie, that the Jews must inhabit the holy Land to bring about the rapture.

Scary, scary stuff. Israel is an artificial construct, and while I respect their right to exist, they will never have peace until they withdraw to 1967 boundaries.

And of course the USA, UK and the rest of NATO will probably back Israel for some reason on this.

Don't know if the blockade is entirely without cause given the Hamas and some other factions, but it might not seem to work very well either.

This might apply to some people on the Christian right in the U.S., but how many else could you put that label on?

I get the impression that there is substantial responsibility to be found on both sides of this conflict. Israel must defend itself, and warfare in densely populated areas against a foe hiding among civilians can be quite difficult with a high probability of collateral damage. However, and as far as I know, the Israeli state is hardly without responsibility when considering the background for all this.

The entire EU issued support for Israel yesterday, I am pretty sure.
