Aliasalpha: yeah but duke 3d was what, 1996? That was basically perfect for the time since you could remember all those shitty action movies you watched as a kid and have a bit of a laugh about so over the top a character actually being presented seriously in those films. Obviously its just a personal thing but since the departure of the early arnie style movie hero, a character like that seems more like a twat rather than a fun jibe
Valrog: I bet you a GOG that if DNF is released (even if it's a completely new game with a different development team but with the same character and label), it would sell upwards of a million copies. People like playing the macho action hero. Some people would, understandably, be offended by some content in the game. Everybody else would buy it.
Don't confuse "popular" with "good". For example, Transformers 2 was a popular movie that made a ton of cash, but I don't think anyone would really call it "good". I would say at least half (if not much more) of the most popular games out there are absolute crap. The Duke games do fall slightly on the side of crap. They can be a fun nostalgic diversion for a while, kind of like catching an old favorite action movie on TV on a Saturday afternoon, but they really aren't much more than that.
