langurmonkey: When it comes to the truth, I don't 100% trust CNN. And if what they are saying is true, I bet they are including free flash games and games for smartphones.
Darling_Jimmy: CNN didn't conduct the survey; the ESA did. And even though it includes games on smartphones, it finds adult female gamers have been gaming for 13 years on average (predating smartphones, in case that wasn't immediately obvious.)
Free flash games have been around for a long time. And a lot of console games in the past, I've noticed, cater to everyone from children to adults, male or female like those Mario games, Zelda games and Final Fantasy games. And what really is gaming? And what really is a gamer? Someone who plays games? If I play 1 or 2 games for years and years does that make me a gamer? If spend little time gaming, does that make me a gamer? How can you put someone who plays games once in awhile in the same category as someone like me? A person who spends most of his life, gaming, buying and worshiping games? This survey doesn't really tell us much. My definition of a gamer is someone who spends most of his or her life, playing, buying and worshiping games. 99% of the women I've encountered in life, are not gamers according to my definition. Playing Sims 2, once a month and beating Final Fantasy VII along time ago doesn't make someone a gamer, in my eyes.
