Any statistician will tell you stereotypes are useful tools for making guesses and evaluating trends. The problem is a lot of people use them to instantly assume someone's personality.

I have had to fight the ignorant American stereotype dozens of times.

I loved that show and he's one of my favorite current comedians. The last show with the bit about videogames was hilarious as well.
Of course he's Irish, the only Australian comedian I know is Tim Minchin.

My gf introduced me to Tim Minchin's work and I have to say - he's awesome.

As to Dara O'Briain - I can watch him for hours over and over again...

There are things people think about my country but I don't know what people think of my people.

Aussie here. So anyway:

Stereotypes:

1) Religiously follows the NRL (at least in NSW and Qld).
2) Christian
3) Xenophobic
4) Loves beer
5) Calls everyone "mate"

Me:

1) I don't give a rat's anus about sport, NRL included.
2) Strongly anti-theist
3) I'm not exactly a fan of people in general, but as long as the immigrants are well educated and go through the proper immigration channels, I'm happy to share a country with them (yay politics!).
4) While I do like Guinness, I find most beer tends to taste about as good as (I imagine) giving a dog a rimjob.
5) I do this occasionally, but only ironically[/hipster]
