lowyhong: This is why I only use Steam when it's really an absolute necessity, for instance when playing PvZ or Zeno Clash.

michaelleung: PvZ can be bought from Popcap themselves without Steam, you know.

Actually, it can be bought from many places. Reflexive Arcade have it as well.

lowyhong: Unfortunately, the majority of Steam users will never acknowledge how shitty it is because this is still an isolated case anyway. It will never be recognized as a pervasive problem as long as it's not consistently spreading.

And because half of the idiots on Steam will be like "YOU NOOB! IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT! VALVE 4 LIEF AND GABE NEWELL IS GOD!"

Ah, that's right. So many games can definitely be found in places other than Steam... if you know where to look.

I know. I bought it from Steam when it was at a discount price. Maybe I'll buy it again when it's out on CDs. But yeah, now that I own PvZ on Steam, I've got no choice but to carry on my reliance on Steam until there's a better alternative. Same with Zeno Clash...well, especially Zeno Clash actually. I love that game, but Steam's the only distribution platform available.
Reminds me of Starfarce, where back then it was either "buy the game or don't" if you had to avoid Starfarce. Ugh...once again Steam forces consumers back to where we started from, the only difference between Steam and Starfarce being that the latter is potentially more harmful to the individual user.
They'd only do that in instances of fraud. So someone must have gifted you the bomb. Make your time.
You'll just have to hope they can see sense and just delete the offending items. But the law is no kinder to people who have received stolen goods than Steam is being to you. So I don't know what you can expect.
There is always the possibility of a basic accident, they do happen

Accounts can also be disabled if Valve feel they may fall under the control of a phisher. Right now the only thing Wec can do is contact support and then wait for them to respond.

True that. Although I suppose that's covered by "fraud". Which they say is the only reason they'd take such action. But like you say, all they can do is ask and wait.

Aliasalpha: Wec, were you one of the people I gave minigolf to? Maybe this is the start of an elaborate revenge scheme

yep, I was.

It's absolutely necessary in the case of TF2.
Hmm might just check my steam, just in case...
EDIT: Yup its fine. Your user ID page thing doesn't make any mention of your account being inactive, does it usually say that users have been banned or anything?

Nope. When my account was rendered inactive, the only people who knew about it was me and the jerk who banned it in Valve's headquarters. Usually it's some sort of dialog box saying you've been banned and stuff.

If you dislike steam enough you could just avoid it. Sure you have to choose but it sends a clear message on your feelings. Most games show up on D2D or impulse within a few months anyways.

It wasn't that strong back then, but as time passed, I understood the reason for any outrage towards Steam. Oh well, I'm just twiddling thumbs and hoping more games get ported to Impulse.

Namur: I remember someone not long ago posted here mentioning a disabled Steam account and it turned out to be some Valve error. The guy got his account back pretty fast.
Maybe it's just some lame mistake on their part.

I found the topic you're talking about, its a little reassuring, but not exactly the same situation; he was accused of stealing credit card numbers.
From what I've read of the official line on things, if you're gifted a game from someone who bought it fraudulently, then that's the ticket to ban-ville.
Basically you're never meant to accept a game from an unknown user or anyone you don't trust. In fact, after reading Vavle's lengthy jargon on the matter it seems like they're saying any user takes a big risk accepting a gifted game from -anyone-.
For example, the most common seems to be sukkas who buy games on eBay and get the game gifted, or sent the CD key. Every instance of this I read on various forums are the ones which got hit with the banhammer.

But here it says that if you're gifted a game purchased fradulently, the game itself will be revoked and Steam will let you buy the game to keep your progress in-game, obviously meaning that they wouldn't disable your account.

which makes me think that anyone who got a game thru wegame could be at risk.
