What the hell's up with this album? I heard the first song from their music video, and being a fan of some of their other songs I've heard else where, I immediately hit the "Buy" button for the album. Unfortunately, I seem to have chosen their experimental album as my first of theirs. While there are some intense rock pieces (Uprising, Unnatural Selection, MK Ultra) there are also some soft ballads that seem to be reaching for what Queen did in numerous songs, but sort of missing the mark. The album seems to be going for a 1984-style future as their theme (they even mention that their second song on the album, Resistance, refers directly to two characters in the novel), and while that stays pretty consistent, the quality dips in a couple of places. When I get more money, I'll go for that album that had Knights of Cydonia and Take a Bow. That's probably more up my alley.
Also, after reading some of their explanations for the songs on this album, I now realize this was meant as an artistic expression. That's great and all, but it's not exactly something I can rock out to, as I've relied on the few Muse songs I knew in the past. Except for track 1. That track is awesome.
