tinyE: Besides, I just saw his earlier post where he bought a Settlers game. XD He won't be doing ANYTHING ELSE for a LOOOOOONG TIME! :P
Very true. XD I remember just playing the Demo of one of the Settlers games over and over, there's something about it that keeps sucking you back in... ^_^

Elinnea: They didn't always used to be, but these days any new account created has them all added automatically. If GOG ever adds a new free game to the mix, presumably all the existing accounts will have to add it manually at that point.
That's a bit of a time saver for newcomers to GOG, -_^
Thanks for the info. ^_^

Neobr10: You always get a bunch of free games from GOG when you sign up. It's normal.
avatar
SpellSword: The games are automatically added to your account? O_O

I seem to remember having to add them manually, did something change or am I misremembering? >_<

tinyE: Play Tyrian.
avatar
SpellSword: If you enjoy Tyrian I'd recommend you also take a look at Raptor: Call of the Shadows. ^_^
Almost all of my free games were automatically added to my account, except for and [url=http://www.gog.com/game/flight_of_the_amazon_queen]Flight of the Amazon Queen, which were added to the GOG catalog after I joined, and had to be manually added to my account.

I second the recommendation of Raptor: Call of the Shadows, and I'm even using it in a screenshot to show how to hide a game from your shelf, not that I understand why anyone would hide Raptor.

The pink Tutu may hold you over for now... But you can only resist the siren call of Sacrifice for so long... -_^

How do they (both) compare with the horizontal Stargunner, horizontality aside ?
Don't listen to any of them! Buy Nothing!

Telika: How do they (both) compare with the horizontal Stargunner, horizontality aside ?
Aside the aforementioned horizontality, though all three are pretty good games, if you're into SHMUPs, I'd say Tyrian and Raptor are the better ones. Maybe it's because I prefer vertical side-scrolling shooters, rather than horizontal ones, but in this case it also has to do with fluidity and control, both Tyrian and Raptor control way better than Stargunner. I enjoy the graphics in those two titles better, as well, the pseudo-early-3D and the overall art design in Stargunner are not that compelling, to me.

In all three games there is a shop between levels to purchase new weapons/equipment so in that regard all three are similar. Although I believe Stargunner has more options for kinds of equipment that can be purchased. (If I'm remembering correctly.)

Tyrian feels more Arcade like than Stargunner. Raptor has a slightly slower pace to it (Which is not a bad thing) than Stargunner and Tyrian, at least in the earlier missions. (imo)

All three are worth playing. ^_^

That's not true. When GOG adds new free games all accounts receive them automatically. The last ones were Stargunner and Amazon Queen, they were automatically added if I recall correctly.

Far out, I didn't even notice that was on there. I'm not really big on side scrollers but I'll give that ol boy a run. :D

Not nearly as fun as Tyrian (which also had one of the best sound tracks) but still fun for a few hours.

I'm pretty sure I still have to add the free games manually, heck, I still don't have Teenagent.

I used to be fond of the genre (in my amiga and arcade days) but not anymore, even though St Patrick forced me to play Aqua Kitty, which was actually half-fun. Also, as a Galaxians Space Invaders Galactica fan, I had semi-recently spent a huge lot of time on Warblade, which I consider the best current retro-shoot'em up.

On the other hand, I don't auto-redeem free games, because I don't want to clog my list with stuff just-because-i-can (yaaayy free, benefit, profit, woot, king of the world). So, if I redeem Stargunner, it'd be really to give it a try. Hence my question.

Hmmm, it won't download for some reason. I thought it might be the downloader so a tried a different game and it worked fine.

Maybe Tyrian has thrown a virus into the system because it doesn't want me spending time with other space shooters.

Maybe I should get a life. :P
