PoSSeSSeDCoW: They're trivial in my book - which is why I'm on this one site called GOG. It's pretty cool; you should look into it. It has older games that may not have the best graphics, but often have excellent gameplay and style.
Okay I see this IS third grade. Let me give you a lecture then ...
Space Quest III was an amazing game. The graphics were EGA and blocky yet it managed to convey a great atmosphere with bits of music and sound but mostly by recreating wonderful scenery.
Secret of Monkey Island: early VGA game but again, dripping with atmosphere. The characters looked great, the pixel animations were comical and fit the rest of the game. The graphical style used is spot on.

And then you got the new version which was rushed, has poorly completed backdrops, little love put into them, characters that look like zombies with hair that looks like it's possessed and in general, the graphical style is terrible.
Graphics are not about how many pixels or how fancy and modern they look. It's about the emotions they convey and how well they manage to bring the game to life. MI1 SE simply fails here for me. It doesn't for you? Good, but it does for enough people and that's what matters. Most of my friends agree as well that the new graphics are not as good as the original. Maybe you need look into the old version eh?
Please, don't tell a graphic designer about how graphics work. You won't win this argument.
