Red_Avatar: *rolls eyes* NITPICKING? The way a game looks is NOT nitpicking you dolt. Graphics define the whole game's atmosphere and MI1 SE did NOT manage to retain that atmosphere (especially due to the weak animations and characters) and many people agree with that if you look around.

That there is nitpicking ;)

You guys really should try using a dictionary sometimes. *facepalm* Graphics in a game are NOT trivial ergo it's NOT nitpicking. Is this 3rd grade or something?

They're trivial in my book - which is why I'm on this one site called GOG. It's pretty cool; you should look into it. It has older games that may not have the best graphics, but often have excellent gameplay and style.

Okay I see this IS third grade. Let me give you a lecture then ...
Space Quest III was an amazing game. The graphics were EGA and blocky yet it managed to convey a great atmosphere with bits of music and sound but mostly by recreating wonderful scenery.
Secret of Monkey Island: early VGA game but again, dripping with atmosphere. The characters looked great, the pixel animations were comical and fit the rest of the game. The graphical style used is spot on.
...
And then you got the new version which was rushed, has poorly completed backdrops, little love put into them, characters that look like zombies with hair that looks like it's possessed and in general, the graphical style is terrible.
Graphics are not about how many pixels or how fancy and modern they look. It's about the emotions they convey and how well they manage to bring the game to life. MI1 SE simply fails here for me. It doesn't for you? Good, but it does for enough people and that's what matters. Most of my friends agree as well that the new graphics are not as good as the original. Maybe you need look into the old version eh?
Please, don't tell a graphic designer about how graphics work. You won't win this argument.

Red isn't the only one that this problem has annoyed. I didn't like the new graphics much, preferring the orginal style and design of the game. I didn't mind that the orginal game didn't have any speech, but upon buying a remake I would have liked to hear the new speech no matter which way I wanted to play the game. Since they have corrected this in MI2:SE we arn't the only two out there who agree on this.

Apparently your sarcasm meter is broken.
Anyways, if you're going to make an argument, don't riddle it full of logical fallacies. The ad hominem attack and argumentum ad verecundiam claims are pretty tired.

It's funny you mention "fallacies" when your own argument is a typical clichd rebuttal: "yeah it's sarcasm, you didn't get it". Yes it was (bad) sarcasm but obviously I did get it - you were just caught with your pants down by comparing liking classic game design with poor modern game design and now you're making excuses.
But anyway, I'm done with this ridiculous discussion. It's sad when appreciating the good work the original designers did on the graphics compared to a modern rushed remake is called "moronic".

It's moronic to think your opinion is the only valid one.

I already said I wasn't going to argue about this anymore but I feel sorry for you if you bring up this kind of false and laughable argument to cover your ass especially since it's blatantly untrue and actually applies to Aliasalpha instead of me - I only objected to him calling people's opinions "moronic". Please, get a clue, topic closed.

I just think that clicking the "make it just like the original in every respect" button and then expecting the result of that button press to deliver anything but an exact emulation of the original game is a sign of a slightly odd mind.
It's sort of like those microwave curry things that have a pouch of rice and a pouch of sauce with a gram of meat in it if you look really hard. You don't open the sauce pouch and then complain that you didn't get rice or people will think you're a nutjob.
Personally I would have liked the enhanced audio to be an option in both, I'd have been interested to play the enhanced graphics with the text subs and midi music

Eexcept it wasn't about the expected result (where did you get that idea?), it was about wanting the option to pick the old and the new any way we wanted and feeling it was ridiculous that we didn't even get the option of having the speech with the old graphics.
Obviously, many people didn't like the new Guybrush - the Internet is flooded with people complaining about how he looks.
*cough http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=Lhh&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&q=guybrush+hair+Special+edition&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai= * cough*
Myself, I'd argue with Aliasalpha, but that avatar is just way too pretty...
