So who else has been playing it?
I think its pretty damned awesome as an overall product, its rough around the edges, for example mousing over the active hotpoint can sometimes be a bit buggy when trying to pick things up or disarm explosives and some sections are just too hard even on easy (unless I just really suck at shooting fast melee enemies) but the really good atmosphere, creative weapons and little touches like the need for gas masks easily makes up for the occasional bit of clunkiness.
I really get a good feel of desperation and claustrophobia out of the game, it usually keeps you tense and jittery whenever you're outside safe zones (and even when you're in one at one point).
Probably my favourite part is how you have to be pretty careful with ammo, you can't empty a magazine into every enemy and then steal their ammo like in most FPS', its not incredibly rare but its scarce enough that you'll find yourself down to your last mag if you're not paying attention. I also like how there's dirty and military ammo, the military stuff is the pre-apocalypse rounds that are really powerful but are also used as currency so you literally make yourself poorer as you shoot it, the dirty rounds are the low quality stuff made by the survivors and are a lot weaker, to the extent that a hemlet will stop a headshot from being fatal unless you hit exposed skin.
Then again, the mad chase sequence when you get into armory station sort of reminds me of a postapocalyptic mirrors edge, that was pretty awesome. Also the hooker at exhibition station was fun, very practical woman.
It seems like the kind of game you'd get if russians had developed fallout and made it into an FPS
Haven't picked it up yet, probably will when the price drops a little, heard good things. Also heard bad things, so I'm assuming its somewhere in the middle.
Picket it up when it was released, been meaning to return to it to get the "good" ending but haven't had time yet.
I've not had as thrilling a experience from any game like I had from this sneaking around in the library trying to avoid the "head librarians", at least not since the hot points of Call of Cthulhu. Or when I was lost outside with the last gas mask filter going on 5 minutes, hearing the strained breathing of my character. Very atmospheric, very unforgiving, and some details which sound lame in theory but work very well in practice, like the military grade ammo. Most of the game you can do without, but by the end you NEED that ammo, and it's not easy to find.
The graphics are good too, but what's up with that FOV? Also the story could have been more and better fleshed out, you're left guessing at some points, and I still don't fully understand the message behind the "good" ending in the game.
Picked it up a few weeks ago, still didn't had the time to play it.
I blame it on soccer.... and the daily business, but most soccer.
Metro 2033 looked shiny, but flawed (and the reviews I read confirmed as much). I figure, if I see it for 15 or less during the Steam sale I'll grab it.

Will buy it very very soon. There's an offer here for Metro 2033: buy M2033, and you get Red Faction Guerilla FREE!

It was on sale on steam a couple weeks ago, it was 50% off then, which made it $14.99.
Metro 2033 has got to be the best single player experience I've had in a while. I like it a whole lot more than Bioshock. Which I beat recently.
Overall I loved it. Definitely would welcome a sequel. But there were some things it did badly.
- AI. When sneaking around and generally completely invisible to the AI they were still taking shots at you even though you'd done nothing to trigger that.
- QTEs. Seriously just no. If there are parts of the game in which a player's skill isn't put to the test then it should just be entirely scripted or at most only require one press at the right moment, like Modern Warfare when you had a dog on your throat.
- Escort missions. Several things wrong here. Firstly the escort should be invulnerable or at least bloody difficult to kill. Secondly if the situation would be far easier to deal with if they just bloody legged it to the end, then crawling along at a snail's pace is not the tactics of choice.
- Enemies. All good until you get to some fucking homing bubbles of death. It was like Bubble Bobble
I'd also have appreciated some more NPC interaction and a less linear approach. But I appreciate they wanted to make a more focussed game this time around. Still, I'd love to see that in a sequel.
now you got me interested. i don't know much about the game: thought it was another average FPS and just skipped all news about it. but i'll try to find out a bit more about it

It's definitely worth getting. The atmosphere of the game and how well crafted the world (which is helped by the fact that it's based on a best selling novel) alone make the game worth your time. Add to that the awesome home made weapons you're using and it's definitely a pretty unique FPS. There are ways in which it's pretty backward and hasn't moved with the rest of the genre, but in other ways it's clearly leading the way.
Your best bet is to grab it with the THQ complete pack.
From the reviews I read, the negative things they were talking about was weapon power and the comparative lack of polish. I can see the point on the lack of polish but its not so bad that you can't overlook a few clunky bits.
I originally came to the same conclusion about the weapon power after taking 3 headshots to drop a guy but then I actually got a nice clean shot on a guy's face and he went down in one shot, it turns out that helmets WORK. The reason I wasn't getting instakill headshots is that the weakened ammo and the protection of the helmet actually combined to make them pretty good protection
The other reviews I read that actually bashed the game were clearly written by someone wanting to get a game like F.E.A.R. and instead getting a game like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., the only real similarity being the creepy atmosphere and the fact that both names have way too many dots in them

Definietly, if there's even 1 or 2 games in the pack you don't have, it's a great purchase

Which is about the case with me. Chaos Rising, Red Faction 1 & 2, FSW 1 & 2. Oh and Juiced and WoZ. Can't forget those, can we?
I might wait until the next sale. Hopefully something else will have been added to it. As apparently your games list doesn't get updated with new additions like it does with the Valve pack.
I'm at the third chapter and i like it a lot. The human enemies just came right on time because i was afraid i was becoming too repititive. It has an awesome atmosphere. Reminds me a lot of cryostasis. It's not perfect but at least it's different.
I picked this up half off a few weeks ago, but I haven't cranked it up yet. Perhaps it shall be my next game to play...
Fun game, but I have a pretty high end system and it runs abysmally. Could have used a few extra months for optimization.
