Miaghstir: The reviewer probably liked the game, and I have no doubt many other people will too, but the numbered score is not what I'm looking at when trying to decide which pieces of entertainment I'm going to buy (if that were the case I'd buy a lot of stuff I'd never actually want taking up place on my shelves). I preordered the collector's edition of ME2 because I liked the first game.
For stuff I think I might want but aren't sure about and for which there is no demo, I tend to look for negative yet eloquent reviews and see if they mention the things that annoy me. Its way too hard to find the downsides in a review that could be condensed into "OMFG, BESTEST GAEM EVAR!!".
As an example, I've never seen a positive review of CoD4 that mentions the endless respawns until you trip the trigger and the fact that the entire game cannot progress without your direct intervention
Bioware games are the exception to pretty much every rule I have though (save the paying $110 one and buying second hand one), they're the only game developer who has never disappointed me
