BioWare is owned by EA now. EA doesn't believe in "trilogies", only "franchises".

I remember around the time Mythic were frogmarched into the hands of Bioware there was talk of a ME MMO which is especially likely. I think all Bioware have said on the subject of trilogies is that Shepard and the Reapers are a trilogy. From that you can assume there is nothing to stop them making another trilogy with a whole new cast. You have to eventually as there is only so much stuff you can import from one game to the other without over-complicating it.

Bioware just put up the Firewalker pack for download on both PC and 360. 473.8MB so its a decent sized DLC.

They already did Mass Effect for the iPhone... and stated that they'll continue the franchise after ME3. That's EA, really.

Is that really any different than the majority of companies in the entertainment (not just gaming) industry though? I can think of several examples off the top of my head:

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. *shudders*
How many freaking Everquest games were there?

I didn't say EA is the only big one doing this, you're right with the examples.
But in this specific case, a week or weeks before the launch of ME2 they were already stating that there will be games after ME3.
