Cosmo811: Can someone please explain to me how I use DOSBox to run Duke Nukem 3D?
In short, you run the installer in CXG (or in your choice of WINE on OS X - I've tried some games in Wineskin and that works too), which unpacks the game's data files into a folder on your Mac. Once you have the data files you can then run them on your DOSXBox install - the easiest way to do this is to
use Boxer. I explain how to do that
here...
But wait, that's not all! It's far better to run it in eDuke32, an open-source port of the Build Engine that supports more modern features like widescreen resolutions and high-res models/textures. It's also a universal binary to boot. There's an in-depth explanation on how to install the data files
here.
Edit: Thanks to some digging around I got Planescape Torment to work. First you have to be aware of the resolution switching issue described in the first post
here. You then also have to turn off window manager decoration and window control in winecfg. Finally, you also have to set the Bottle to emulate a virtual desktop (I currently have it set to 1024 x 768), and go to the file Torment.ini and set fullscreen to 0. You'll have to put up with it playing in a window, but it does work. Oh, and Baldur's Gate works just fine with a plain vanilla install in CXG 9.1. For both games the widescreen and UI mods just don't work.
