Legend of Iya is now on Kickstarter, and it looks very pretty indeed.

It is a classical metroidvania game. The pixel art in this is short of stunning. Have a look, then give all your monies:

Indeed it is. Shows the dangers of posting before having coffee.
Well, this looks interesting, but I don´t think this is a REALLY good project:
It´s not progressive, it´s back-headed and this is a really bad.
We aren´t living in the 90ies anymore!
We don´t need laggy annimations, we don´t need limited resolutions, we don´t need chunky controls!

I think this is also a flaw in such great games like FTL or LaMulana:
Those are great games and they are bringing many new inspiration in their genres and are, in this way, progressive.
But they are backheaded in the way of techs.
And THIS IS NOT A PART OF RETRO GAMING:
We have to transferr this great gameplay evolution in modern days, and not the technical weeknesses:
This is why I think Project Eternity, Torment: Tides of Numenera, Wasteland II or the already released Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams are great projects:
They are creating new games with new techs built with old working techniques but containing new gameplay elements.
And thats ,in my eyes, the only true way of doing retro gaming.

Thanks for reading!

What's wrong with old tech? I'm of the opinion that gameplay is king. As long as it's fun, it's worthy.

The guy is a pixel artist by trade, of course it's going to use pixel art. The art is gorgeous to boot!

Gorgeous indeed... and I'm pretty sure old 2D "heroes" don't hang on ladders that way!
Backed
Looks nice.

But I can´t understand why we should stay at 640x480 while we are able to perform even 1920x1080 on LowCost-Chips!
That´s just a waste of your monitor! (640x480 on a modern monitor looks blurred)

And of course gameplay is king.
But even Turrican had more fluent annimations than this one AND Turrican had been graphically progressive at it´s time:
At least I think they should implement a feature to avoid blurryness caused by the upscaling:
Such as only allowing pixel addition in aspect ratio and than filling in the black borders with some athmospheric elements!

I think people are a bit tired by now of every other indie game riding off the old retro feel.

This one seems to have actually pretty pixel art, so this is different.
I kinda like the retro look but it doesn't seem all that special?

The benchmark for this would be something like Dust an elysian tail or The dishwasher. A unique art style, tight platforming controls, fluid animation.
