If they can make this work properly with modern OSs, I might be desperate enough to buy it. I fucking love Dark Forces 2, and I can only barely make it work in Windows 7.
Oh, and I forgot one thing: I hope they will make Dark Forces 'really' playable with mouse, I mean to be able to free-look with mouse and not just move with it.
As for Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, I also hope they will fix problems concerning 3D acceleration.
Hum... big expectations here... desperately hope it will not be fast re-releases...

DarthKaal: If Dark Forces is coming (my favourite SW game), I really hope it will not just be the DOS version with a DOS emulator in a .exe package.
For now, the best version of this game is the Mac version: higher resolution, better colors, more options, more (funny) cheat-codes,...
I hope they will base this "new" version on it, and not the DOS version. But I have doubts, since Republic Commando, for example, has not seen its bumpmapping problems fixed...

There's a fan project to rewrite the Dark Forces Engine. I haven't tried it myself, but I think the first few levels are supposed to be playable. Perhaps the rerelease will prove inspirational.

...heh, what about at GOG :D ?? Anyway, i'd try for the really classic Dark Forces, but not much more. I mean, i had Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight wich i just gave away 2 months ago (!!!) - and that was the DVD-casing DF: JK + expansion where you play as Mara Jade IIRC. Nice game at the time, but not really a replay for me. Also i game away Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast LONG before Dark Forces II because it was such a ridiculous game for the time.
Although it used the Q3A engine, most game world was silly window dressing, there was little fun, almost on rails experience. Then the stupid late levels where one could tear his hair off due to stupid platform-gameplay inside reactors and stuff. No really.
Also, the 'oh-look-there's now several lightsaber-wielding mini-bosses everywhere-and-they-all-have-zero-character'... and the multiplayer was hectic... people force jumping in CTF all the time and you can't hit sh1t. Or, go to a lightsaber-only server and enjoy the silly melee combat partially screwed by lightsaber dorkiness play, or force powers galore.
Meh, Jedi Outcast = avoid like the plague. That's my experience, at least... it seems Jedi Academy improved this whole thing somewhat, but i was so burned by Outcast that i just moved on... oh well... might be diferent for other, i suppose...

kais246: Would be nicer if they where coming here.

Same here, I would very happily replay the whole Dark Force/Jedi Knight serie... but I will wait for the DRM-free GoG version.

WHAT? You thought all that about Outcast? I loved that game to death, especially the multiplayer. That alone makes the pack an instant buy for me.

Same here, I love this game so much.
At the time of Jedi Outcast's release, I wasn't expecting to find a SW game that would be as good as Dark Forces / Jedi Knight. Well, maybe not AS good as DF, but definitely great: cool story, nice graphics, great animations, excellent level design (I prefer games with long levels instead of those multiple tiny levels in actual games).
I was disappointed by Jedi Academy, though. It was more a multiplayer patch than a real new game imo, but still a good multiplayer experience.

While the PC version is good and all, I bought the Playstation version used for around $4.

All it will be is the DOS game in DOSBox. These games aren't being remade like The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition. You won't see any enhancements whatsoever, unfortunately.

{
Buy();
}
else
{
WaitForGog();

How can someone not like Jedi Outcast? :-) Quake3 + epic sword fighting + old Star Wars == win.

Yeah, I was quite pleased by this announcement.
It is important to note that Lucasarts did do some updates on their previous Steam rereleases. The adventure games had filters applied and were made to run directly in a window, rather than going through DosBox or ScummVM like games on GOG do. Republic Commando got some minor update to work well on Vista as well.
So, these games could easily be updated in minor ways to ensure they work well on modern systems.

There were some minor changes made to KotOR as well, though from what I've seen, they didn't actually change anything that has made a significant difference in most of the issues the game had.

They wouldn't change issues that were always there when played on a less modern system. All they want to do is to make sure the game works great on modern systems. For the most part, that's all I really need out of them.
By the way, when Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy get re-released this Wednesday, I need to learn how to create a server for GOG. That game's multiplayer made it awesome to just screw around. Sure, the fighting was awesome, but jumping around complex levels the users made, challenging other players to see who could get to the highest point first, was part of the charm. I remember this one really awesome RP level someone did of some Jedi meeting place or something, and it was great to just check out every nook and cranny of the place. It's probably the closest I ever got to fully RPing in a game like that.
