TheCheese33: Shit. So far, I've run Norton, Avast, Spybot, and Ad Aware. What should I do next?

If you're set on trying to find and remove the virus then keep running different AV programs and hope one of them detects it. If nothing is detected then you've basically got two options- first, if you don't use your computer for anything particularly secure (e.g. online banking) then you can take a wait-and-see approach and watch for any suspicious behavior (computer slowing down, lots of network activity, etc), doing nothing if no such behavior is observed, and nuking the drive if it is. Or if you do use your computer for anything secure then you should just nuke it right from the start, as dealing with something like financial information being stolen is far more of a pain than simply reinstalling your OS and various programs.
And if you're nuking it, do a good job and wipe the partitions off as well.
Hmm there's a thought, a lot of viruses & malware manage to cloak themselves in windows, perhaps you should download a liveCD of ubuntu or some other linux distro and run an antivirus from that. That way the files can't be cloaked by piggybacking on windows processes, the ram will be cleaned if you start from a cold reboot and the ubu distro can't be compromised since its on read only media
Anyone know any good linux antivirus options?
BootNuke the bastard.

Arkose: The new version isn't offered through the update checker yet. You can get it manually from the download page; note that this will require you to uninstall v3 first whereas the version available through the checker will be able to upgrade an existing installation. If you want to upgrade manually but keep your settings you can export them first via Miscellaneous>Manage My Configurations (the one currently in use is marked as "Active").

Thanks, I will check it out . . =)

Stuff: Hummn, I run ver 3 and no indication of a ver 4 here either. Never tried the Comodo AV, use AVG in combo with Comodo, trouble free for years.

You've got to go to their site and download it. They don't seem to bother to tell you when there's a major update.

Weclock: that's impossible to turn off.
Whooray, automatic update blocks all traffic on port 80!

I can't say I've ever had that problem.

Aliasalpha: What symptoms do you have now?

There aren't any symptoms that have popped up. Fuck it, I'll just re-format.

Remember, kill the partition and remake it just to be safe

Holy shit, now it won't let me reboot with the disk! I have the Windows 7 disk in, and when it reboots, it says Press any key to reboot with the disk. I slam every god-damned key on my keyboard, but nothing gets through!
can you get into bios or safe mode? Might be that the USB keyboard option in bios is set to OS rather than boot

How would I go about doing that? I tried getting into Safe Mode, but it isn't accepting my repeated slams of the F8 key, either!
Well the bios key should be displayed on boot at the bottom of the screen. Try holding control at boot for safe mode, sometimes the keyboard needs a wake up.
You got access to a PS2 keyboard and port on the motherboard?

I tried holding control, and it didn't work. Also, I don't have a PS2 keyboard. I just have the stock one Alienware gave me.
i'm using Kaspersky Internet Security 2010
Weren't you supplied with a USB to PS2 converter? If not, you should probably be able to pick one up fairly cheaply, if you are unable to borrow a PS2 keyboard from someone else.

Arkose: If you're looking for a good firewall to accompany Avast! I'd recommend Comodo Internet Security (free). It will occasionally pop up "Defense+" messages asking you to confirm certain program actions (such as elevating an unrecognised installer), but unlike Norton 360 it has an expansive whitelist of safe files and trusted digital signatures to let known programs do their thing without any user intervention.

Navagon: Commodo has a good firewall but I found Defence+ pedantic and the AV is more than a bit paranoid. But the firewall by itself is good.

I use the built in Windows firewall. So shoot me.
