Important update:

They've now altered their policy. They do allow DRM, but it's listed on the game's page just above the buy button. For example: http://www.indievania.com/games/unepic

I think it's now "DRM-free unless stated otherwise".

Original post:

Indievania is coming out of beta: http://www.indievania.com/blog/indievania-launch-sale

And has also decided to commit to a DRM-free only policy: http://indievania.com/content/more-info-drm#comment-220

Because the DRM-free thing is new, there might be some DRM'd games that slipped through the net, so go easy on them for now.

For anyone who doesn't know, they have a rather unique business model. They give 100% of the price of the game to the developer, they rely entirely on tips for their own income AFAIK.

Thanks for that. Bought Milkstone Bundle + Cthulhu Saves the World + Breath of Death VII Combo Pack.zip $1 each :)
I have some of the games on sale here, and I really recommend both Inside a Star Filled Sky and Cardinal Quest; both are fun little entertaining games you can play on a quick work break.
Woot! What an awesome launch sale! Blocks That Matter and Wizorb for $1?! Do they have a gifting option, I'd want everyone to have a copy! ;)

And I'm totally checking out Metal Dead and Cardinal Quest now, thanks for the heads-up! :)

I was just adding Beep to the Indie Games thread and noticed that on their website they only link to Steam, GamersGate etc. and not to Desura and Indievania. Weird, especially since I've seen it on other devs' websites too. I hope Indievania will evolve into something bigger than the virtuous but unloved stepchild of indie distribution!
Can I just point out:

Blocks that matter $1.00
Inside a star-filled sky $1.60
BEEP $2.00 (though it is also part of the Be Mine bundle)
Sideral Defence $1.00

So far Indivania looks better then expected. Nice and clean with some good games.
Thanks, this looks really good. People that don't have them should definitely consider Inside a Star-filled Sky and the Cthulhu / Breath double pack.

I'm rather tempted by Cardinnal Quest too, time to go hunt down some reviews...
Will have a look at Cardinal Quest. Anyone else buy Infinity Danger? (its in the Milkstone bundle or standalone)
If you like short and weird adventure games, I recommend checking out Snakes of Avalon, too. It's free!

Two questions:

1. Any idea how long this promo will be run?
2. I take it you can only buy one game at a time?

Probably snag Cardinal and the Milkstone bundle.

I recommend Cthulu Saves the World pretty wholeheartedly.
Does Cardinal Quest still need Adobe Air? I have the version which was for a short time for free, but never played it.

I hope they will improve the website and shop functions. There is a rss-feed only for the featured games part, which gets very rarely updated. Better would be a feed for new games and promo sales. Also I don't know how to add another game to an order to avoid multiple paypal fees. Everytime I press buy I get only one window for each game.

Edit1: I see Leroux has the same problem. Btw, I'm using the latest firefox whith Noscript blocking facebook and cloudfront. I will try another browser to see if that's the problem.
Edit2: Nope, same problem with Opera.

My guess is that it's meant to be that way and necessary for the way they handle the payment, because in the description of the website they say: "Customers can purchase games directly from the developers own merchant account".

I didn't realize PayPal charges fees per order, does that also apply if you pay with the money in your PayPal account or only when you let PayPal transfer it from your bank?
The Milkstone bundle looks like my cup of tea. I'll check it out after I get off work.

Thanks for the heads-up, SirPrimalform!

I'm guessing the same thing, but still, it's very, very silly. I don't want to rack up five $1 purchases on my card in a single day, that's bound to trigger some kind of anti-fraud protection thing in the bank. Not to mention PayPal really doesn't deserve that much in processing fees.

If they want to grow, this is something they absolutely have to change. Make their own account and settle things with the individual devs once a month or something. As it is, the whole thing is hardly an improvement over visiting the site of the game itself and making the purchase there.

Paypal doesn't charge you when you buy something, but they charge the seller 30 cents plus a percentage of the price for each purchase, which is quite a lot for a 1$ purchase.

Edit: Also, am I the only one that occasionally have problems with the preview videos? It looks like the control bar has been moved "behind" the info panel and I have to refresh the page a few times to solve it.

Speaking of which - I noticed that for most of the games the price given is a minimum. It is possible to pay more then the asking price if you want to. I like this. I guess this is something similar to what the Humble Store is going to be. I do not mind paying a little more for games I really like to encourage the developers.
