Well, the studios go where the money is.

deathknight1728: Thats the thing though, Superman has always been original because he was the first one to do it. Even comedy recognizes this. I remember family guy even made a joke about how funny it was when Superman was in hell. Superman-"I know what your thinking but some chick said I was faster than a speeding bullet, I choked her."

Elmofongo: Its kinda sad that people shits on superman because they say he is overpowered so cannot make a good story out of it. Superman: The Animated Series says otherwise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUcKJflBG8Q
The thing is, Superman is apparently VERY hard to write. He can solve anything! He is invincible! That is why the best superman stories are the ones about how damn human he is. All Star Superman, For the Man Who Has Everything, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, the Hitman issue where Tommy meets Supes. Hell, even Morrison's ongoing SUperman thing. Particularly the couple of issues where he did not have the superman uniform. Superman is not boring, Superman is boring when badly written. Also, second the animated series. All the Bruce Timm designed shows were great.

Edit: Also: Everyone needs to watch Dredd.

I absolutely loved the Iron Man movies and the Avengers, Thor and Captain America weren't bad either imo, though less than the others. The Dark Knight was also worth every minute I spent watching it.

Sure, there's crappy superhero movies but at least there's some good ones too.
I'm fine with superhero movies, I waited my whole childhood for Hollywood to take superheroes seriously and make awesome movies. Yeah, they put out some stinkers these days too, but we're getting awesome ones as well. And why should you care if they put out movies you don't want to see? I don't give a shit about all the love stories they kick out, why should you care about superhero movies if you don't like them?

No shit Batman, Superman, Batman Beyond, Justice Leauge, and Teen Titans were awsome.

Dare I say it, but I think I like DC better than Marvel, not saying that marvel is bad mind you I love Iron Man and Hulk, just that DC is more interesting.

You guys really think I'd like Dredd? I saw the Rob Schneider one with Stallone and didn't like it at all. Still this is a remake of that you say or a whole other movie?

I remember they edited the clip from that movie with Stallone-"I am above the lawlll!!" Friggin hilarious.

gameon: As for re-boots. It's ridiculous that Spiderman is getting a re-boot so soon after the last trilogy. Hulk was re-booted after one film with another no better than it, just different.
While I can't give information out on the Hulk thing (Because I don't have it), Spider-man was rebooted because Sony took so long working stuff out that Sam Remi went on to do something else. I don't know if this was out of 'We don't want to make another one', or 'We don't want to pay you anymore then we've been', but they took so long that they were going to lose the rights back to Marvel, so they rushed out the new movie so they could keep making them.

Edit: My few cents are, I don't mind all of them, I liked the first 2 Spidey movies (I walked out on the 3rd one a few times), didn't see the new one because I've been overloaded on the Origin story.

Thor was boring, but it was all setup for the Avengers which I thought was good. I liked Iron Man and even Capt. America, and while I enjoyed the Nolan darker Batman movies, I am ready to see more of the campy designs the character is known for.

Superman...is a challenge. It's VERY easy to fall back on super-cosmic threats because of his powers for people that just don't know how to write that much power. Linkara I think said it best when he talked about how the best Superman stories tend to be based around how much of his power is really needed. It's hard to believably put him in an underdog situation for him to climb out of, or something to challenge him to make the second act work.

Emtirely new movie. Also, it is Robocop-level violent. Quite true to the comics as well, nothing to do with the old one. Nothing.
Even if Stallonne had a better dreddmouth and jaw, but damn the new one is amazing.

As camp as the 1960's Batman?

amok: Watchmen?
The best of the genre.

Am I the only one who thinks the Avengers is a very overrated movie?
You want campy batman? There's Batman Brave and the Bold. Good show, too.

You know what? I would go see a 1960s style Batman movie, and probably enjoy it. I wouldn't want to see it overdone (Please please please no half-movie Origin again), but every once in awhile I see it as doing something good and different.

Heresy Batman started as dark character, hell in his first comics he killed a man:

Changing the tone of a series does change the dynamic of it, for better or worse.

In the Batman case, the old 60's movie had some laugh out loud moments (shark repellant). Light hearted.

I find the new ones to be overly serious, and not fantasy enough (like the comics are). But that's just me.

With James Bond, they also changed the movies to be more serious and dark. But i preffered The Dalton bond all action style, or Roger Moores comedy bond.
