BadDecissions: And when the right holders of the games start writing GOG testy letters asking why they've decided to give away their games for a cent? I mean, it's a cool idea, but I don't think it's feasible; the publishers have their rights, too. (This is also the reason that every time GOG gives away a game for free, and people ask if they can get a different game for free if they already own the one, the answer is always no.)
I must confess I don't know much about placing games on the market, and even less about GOG's obligations towards the developers. But it seemed like a neat idea to maybe entice more people try games they would have otherwise overlooked. About the reward for the GOGmix winner, it's purely arbitrary, of course.

It would be interesting to learn how much GOG will profit from this PWYW scheme. I'm sure there are many players who will pay a bit more than $6 for Unfinished Business because it's a great game they feel attached to/nostalgia for, but for each one of those, there are a dozen people who will pay just $0.99 because they can get away with it. So it's risky business, but I still like the concept.
Personally I would prefer a plain old sale on a title, and bundling only if a game had sequels. But I can do without PWYW.

I don't want to buy a bunch of games just because they're cheap; I want to buy games that I actually want.
I vastly prefer the style GamersGate and Groupees used for their IndieFort Championship and Build a Bundles. I'd rather be forced to pay a certain amount for each game, and have the discount be higher the more games you get.. with the ability to choose exactly what games you want. Honestly, I'd rather just have a 50%-60% off Interplay sale than a bundle like this. At least then I'd be able to buy what games I want rather than get games I know I'll never play.

I'm still not understanding the criticism of these promotions, other than the people who didn't think the title of the sale was totally accurate.

I mean, if you don't happen to like the games, then you don't like the games. It happens. They put games on sale here that I don't like all the time. But I don't complain, because people have different tastes. Sure I may not want to take advantage of a particular promo but others may want to. So to each his own.

As for the Fallout thing, I think the problem is that it's one of their top sellers. They can't devalue it so much by giving out millions of copies for a penny at a time.

But look at it this way.

Fallout + Fallout 2 + Fallout Tactics = $17.97.

Double that price and it's $35.94.

So let's say your primarily after the Fallout games. If you pay $35, which is double the normal price of the Fallout Titles you get ALL of the Fallout titles *****PLUS***** 29 other games.

TWENTY %&*% NINE.

TWENTY NINE.

Yeah, VR Soccer sucks. OK, so 28. TWENTY EIGHT.

That is freakin amazing if you didn't have any of these titles.

If you like just 3 of the other 28 games, what you are effectively doing is buying 6 games at full price and they're throwing in 25 games for you to give a shot if you get bored with the others one day.

TWENTY FIVE FREE GAMES.

DRM-FREE.

IN THE CLOUD.

That's inccccccccccccccccreddible.

I know some of us, myself included, have some of the games. Still amazing! I had 13 of them, which is a good amount. So I ended up with 19 games, a savings of $78.82! Holy *%&* crap!

As if that wasn't cool enough, I get a code for 13 free games that I already have to give out to a friend that doesn't have a GOG account.

Well, since I can hardly ever afford games, to me it doesn't matter. I know, on the surface that doesn't make sense - but I'm not big on the idea of lots of people paying very little because a few people pay a lot. I wanted the DD set but couldn't afford to pay for all three (fortunately a kind soul gifted the first one to me).

I didn't like the Interplay deal because there was only one game in the middle tier I was interested in. For me, buying a bunch of games just to get one didn't make sense.

But that's just me. Some love it, some don't. I have no problem saying no.

No, it doesn't. Have you even played it? :/

Well if i wanted just the fallout series, I would most likely wait until they were on sale themselves which would then only cost $8.97 or whatever so the savings is not nearly that drastics if you were only too want 3 of the games...especially since very few people would even play/want the majority of the interplay games.

I prefer if GOG stick to normal sales, bundle says, and get away from the PWYW especially if its not a true PWYW....

Not yet, just basing it on what I've been told. But now that I have it, I'll have to check it out.

It really is a good game. I played it to death when I was younger(I had it under the name Actua Soccer). I imagine it aged a little, but is probably still gonna keep me occupied a few hours :)
I think the bundles are a good tool to bring new folks here to GOG, so I'm fine with them if they're only used from time to time as special sales. Personally I prefer the old weekend sales and I really hope they will be still the regular promo method in the future. I want to choose what games I want and, while it's maybe nice for many to gift them, I don't want to rebuy stuff. Indie bundles are fine, because in most cases there a few interesting games I know, maybe in the worst case a few I already bought, but normally many new games I never would buy but now I can give it a try. In the case of GOG I normally normally exactly know or checked all games before the promos.

So, in short: No problem with them, but please GOG use them only as special sale and don't let them replace or abandon your regular weekend sales.
