I've installed Aliens: Colonial Marines. 10GB and 30 minutes later, let the alien killing begin. And it did. The first couple, then I reach the stairs where I have to defend our backs. And I die. And die. And die all over again. And this at easy difficulty. Seems I have to go back playing TBS games :/

You suck at a shitty game?

No, shitty game sucks at being good game.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is probably not the best FPS game to try and get good at. Doom would be a good start, no worries about insane accuracy and the easier difficulties are not extremely insane to play.
I played about half of that game before giving up. It was a little harder than most modern FPS games, you can die pretty quickly. I think they patched it to be harder actually, because people complained about brain-dead AI.

Keeping away from the aliens seemed to be the most important thing. Use the shotgun a lot and keep backing up.

Also important to remember when playing on PC that mouse aim shouldn't lead you to up the difficulty thinking the game will be easier because of the greater precision. These modern shooters are balanced for auto-aim on a control pad, so when you take that away, even with mouse precision, it makes the game harder if anything. I learned that lesson a while back.
Why did you start with an awful and buggy game that was universally hated?

Probably for the reason most folk bought the game. Awesome movies, and solid premise. Just a terrible, terrible delivery.

I have played FPSs back during the years :). I've played Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, Quake and Quake 3. But it seems that I don't have it in me anymore :/.
I wanted to play this game because I've loved the AVP games and wanted to see how it compares :)
But the difficulty even on easy is punishing. Aliens rush you pretty fast and in close combat you die after 2-3 bites.
And yes I play with keyboard and mouse :).

Have you tried standing still, not moving at all, even firing the gun? The alien(s) should walk right past you then. Live and let live, man. That seems to be their motto.

Would you prefer the dead (non existent) AI that was there at launch? :). I bought the game and look forward to see how it is all patched up (the sound was top notch at launch.... (shame the AI and graphics were not...)
I remember the first xenomorph encounter in that game, it builds up to this scary reveal (to a monster we've all seen before) and the xenomorph jumps out and..........just stand there. stands there until I shoot it to death. I got to the bit where all I was fighting was combat synths and couldn't be arsed going any further.

To think A:CM was outclassed in every way possible by Aliens vs Predator, a game three years it's senior, a game not even considered to be the best in the AVP franchise.

Fuck you, Gearbox.

Thirding this.

Don't worry about it, I suck at them too. At least I have a chance with WASD/Mouse. Controllers for console FPSs are complete suck. 15 years ago I could tear it up in a Duke Match, 10 years ago I owned LAN parties in Quake 3. Not anymore though. Too many RPGs and 4Xers since then. I even struggle with RTSs now unless there's a pause. So don't feel bad.
I yet to play A:CM, but from my experience with FPS, backing up while shooting all most all ways helps. (ps dont back up into other enemies/wall)

Sadly, nearly every developer rather just increase enemies health and damage output before writing more pathing/a.i. :(.

Maybe you have some older version. In mine the Xenomorph hid and then rushed me from a corner. But after teaming up became hard:)

Nope, doesn't works that way :)).
