With all this talk of The Elder Scrolls, I think it's pretty interesting how when Morrowind came out, myself and others thought it wasn't all that immersive compared to other RPGs. Then Oblivion came out and everyone praised Morrowind. Now, when Skyrim comes out, will people be praising Oblivion? I'll bet you 20 orens.

There is a lot of nostalgia going on here at GoG and that's just the nature of the beast when you have a site dedicated to good old games. I'm 34 and I often think that games from my youth were better than what we get today - and maybe they were. But we often forget the horrible games from the past (ET, Daikatana) or the clones (Gianna Sisters, Nox). So even though I agree that most games these days are made by suits to monetize a product/industry and not made by game designers/artist with intellectual integrity, I still think we see good games today. I really loved Borderlands, Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3 and Stalker: CoP.
I tend to take the "middle way" and not just call everything made today shit - but I can also see that the truly great games was probably made before 2000. I've been critisized before for being too kind to modern games but for me games are first and foremost FUN so I really don't see the point of spending time and money to play games only to hate them and write angry reviews telling everyone how crappy the game industry is today. I will atleast try to enjoy the game eventhough there are games like Dragon Age 2, Rogue Warrior, Stormrise and Dungeon Siege that are impossible to enjoy.
FORGOT ONE:

Alice 2, I just pray that it's not too consoled out.

(yes I bitch about "console" ports, optimization for game pads is vastly different than optimization for the mouse and keyboard ... and not just having limited button assignments: enemy reaction speeds, camera angles, movement speeds, turn rates, and UI all end up being vastly different between the two styles of input. in many ways PC gaming and Console (gamepad) gaming are about as equateable as playing with a game pad and jumping up and down and screaming at your kenect. there are ways to make the transition work, but it takes work, and no one wants to put that into a 3-6 month old title.)

Good reply...+1 Though I have to say I liked Dungeon Siege...I dunno why, it just clicked I guess. But you're right, we should enjoy things for what they are not when they were made.
I think he's talking about Dungeon Siege 3, not #1 or 2.

the first two games were more akin to tactical RPGs (go figure with Gas powered making them), so the plot and GFX kinda were secondary issues to the meat and potatoes of crunching numbers on your party and juggling party commands in real time.

... thats probably why most of the people who fondly remember the series tend to be from the "older" crowd: it's got more in common with what we started out on than it does the current RPG trends.

Isn't DS3 not even out yet? How can people say something is impossible to enjoy if it isn't even out yet? 0.o Future people perhaps?

Well the original didn't exactly feel like a PC-exclusive game. You could have put it on the Xbox and nobody would have thought twice. But yeah, I hope the sequel is decent--although the original composer Chris Vrenna isn't working on it, which is rather disappointing.
the demo is out on the XBOX and it sucks ass!

(for a Dungeon Siege game)

the full game may not be unlocked but it plays like one of those LOTR action adventure games, not dungeon siege games.

How about the PC version? Did you try it yet???

Also I liked those LOTR games so I might enjoy this,...that is if they've stuck to most of the canon/continuity.
the problems are issues that deal with the fundamental design of the game, like the plot, combat, and character progression.

the PC version will probably be a little bit shinier and naturally the keyboard + mouse will have an effect on the game play, but not that much: it's a Console game through and through and as such it's going to be best played with a controller.

check out some Youtube videos if you doubt me, I was really looking forward to it and ended up emotionally crushed.

Still, as it's a DS title and i'm used to that kind of play i'll probably get it...not preorder, of course, but possibly when the price drops a bit.

No surprise there. As soon as I heard Obsidian was working on it I lost all interest. Not sure if you've seen Alpha Protocol but uh....

it's all lipservice, the game feels more like a tie in to a summer blockbuster than it does the continuation of the series. just wait till you see the skill progression system: each character is hard locked to two weapon classes and each class only has 3 skills (combine that with the basic attack and you conveniently have got 1 action for each of the 4 face buttons on a controller). I'm telling you this game is a Dungeon Siege title in name alone.

I liked the LOTR games too, however those still hold up favorably in comparison. (and yes I'm talking about the games from 2002-2003)

I'll probably demo it then, and then make up my mind whether to get it or not....and btw, I LIKE summer blockbusters. :(

(BTW, ever play the old snes/etc LOTR games? Now those were hard.)
