AI don't troll. AI don't use cheats. AI don't spam. AI don't abuse glitches. AI don't grief. AI don't act like 12 year old kid. AI don't vote kick you for making 1 mistake. AI don't vote kick you because it wants an online friend in your place. AI don't scream offensive shit on the mic. AI don't tell you how to play properly over mic. AI don't force shitty maps or mods on you. The list goes on.

Call me crazy but I enjoyed multiplayer and online games in general when they were considered "nerdy". The calibur of the players was much higher and I don't mean in their ability to play said game. They were just more considerate in general and could function in a team without worrying about what they were getting out of helping someone.

I don't like them too, with only a few notable exceptions.
I played Worms World Party like crazy online, and Day of Defeat. And I had a good time mostly because of the mature and good community.
I played Killing Floor for maybe a dozen hours, but it was infested with teenage trolls. And that infestation seems to be my main problem with most of online games I tried to play.
Also, I don't really like the dynamics in online play as well. When I play singleplayer shooters, sometimes I like to sneak, to cover from tree to tree, etc etc. You can't really do that in multiplayer, because everybody's running around like angry dogs.
The same goes with RTS games. No real planning, no building up your army, only constant attacks since the first minutes. It's not how I roll, it's not how I'd like to roll.
I played couple games with my friends only online, like GTA 2, AOE2 etc etc, and it was awesome.

Ye. I dislike multiplayer too, by and large. Loved playing Counter-Strike (1.6) on a semi-private server (i.e. it was open, but not too busy and had loads of regulars + active admin that stepped in). Played a lot of Planetarion (the time wasted!!!!) as part of an alliance - which was a lot more about the banter and the occasional coordinated action). Loads of BloodBowl (err. FantasyFootball) via FUMBBL.com, too.
I dislike the competitiveness of most of the multiplayer environments out there though. Not in that I dislike competition outright, but I am more interested in having a bit of a laugh as opposed to being super efficient when gaming. Goes for things like sports (e.g. Badminton), too - being challenging is good, competition is silly. It doesn't matter if you win or lose, really. And of course all the worst of human behaviour out there.
I also dislike that most online gaming relies so much on action; on reaction times, often, rather than more deliberation [likewise do, by and large, prefer really good turn-based mechanics over real time ones].

Also, what is the main difference between board games and video games - video games are so focused on winning, the sole games' mechanics are triggering all this negative emotions in people.
When I want to play with real people, I play board games. Because most of the people who play board games just want to have fun, while majority of people playing video games online want to win.
