GoG is currently releasing a so called "New wave of Atari games".

Desperados:Wanted Dead or Alive was a game made from Infogrames.I think Alone in the Dark too. Just because Atari bought Infogrames I don't think all Infogrames games are renamed after Atari. The maker stays eternal no matter the current owner.
And besides when you start the game, the company's name is shown clearly. I haven't seen any new copy of Desperados where the logo of Infogrames is removed and replaced with the one of Atari.

Clean and legit Atari games are Asterix & Obelix XXL , Fahrenheit , Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure etc.

Why don't they put them in the "Atari wave" instead?
I see that they are focusing more in Infogrames games rather than Atari.
For all I know, they can grab Outcast from the already released game list and put it in the Atari wave too.

What's the point? Atari has released many good games. No reason to mix it with another company's titles.

Because Atari owns the licenses and wants everybody to know it.
It's the Atari wave because Atari is the current owner of the IPs and Atari is the company that allowed GOG to sell the games, the original publisher doesn't even exist any more.

Yeah but that doesn't change an Infogrames game to Atari game.
Not unless they recall every Infogrames title that has ever been released, change the logos all over the games (inside and out), totally erase any Infogrames trace from them and throw them back to the market as Atari games. IMPOSSIBLE.

If you bought a house from John Smith who built it 20 years ago with his own hands, and you live in it for 10 years, you call it your house, or Smith house?

It's wave of Atari games, but some of them were made by Infogrames.

Take Desperados for instance. When you finish installation and start the game, what's the first you see. The Infogrames logo. Atari isn't even mentioned in the credits.

That means the original publisher still exists. In these games. No matter who bought them.

Infogrames doesn't exist anymore and Atari owns the titles. That's why it's called Atari wave. Though maybe it could be called "Wave of games owned by, but not necessarily created by, Atari"

But I doubt Atari would allow that :D

Well a house wouldn't have a big sign "Created by John Smith" and even if it had, it would be him who created that house. I would just be using it.

But it would be your house, and sign of John Smith would have only a historical value.

And if you would plan to rent a room, you'd make an advertisement "I'll rent a room in my house", not "I'll rent a room in John Smiths house", unless you are a real estate agency.

But there is a little twist here, it's not Atari that owns Infograme's games... it's Infograme that own Atari!

Atari is Infograme, technically Infograme bought Atari's name (because of the brand recognition) and slap it on their product, not the opposite.

I think the reason it's Atari wave is because they've got an agreement with Atari to release more games from their catalogue. And, well. It sounds better to say "Atari games" than "Odds and ends Atari said it was okay to release here"
Just because there are two Infogrames games in the wave doesn't mean the entire thing will be from them right?

Same way, if Atari were to release these games in retail today you could be darn sure that on the DVD cover edge you wouldn't see the Infogrames logo, but you would find the three lines of Atari adorning the edge along with the title. It's a publisher thing.

lukipela: Does it say "games made by atari" ?
No, but games that ARE made from Atari have their logos on, like Fahrenheit.
If I bought Atari, could I release a series of their games as Jwrath games wave?

Didn't infogrames buy the atari name (which was then attached to practically nothing) to give themselves a reputation boost when they went into publishing? Instead of people saying "who the hell are infogrames?" they said "Woah, atari is back?"

Jwrath: If I bought Atari, could I release a series of their games a Jwrath games wave?
If you use that as your business name yes. Now get on with it, lots of infogrames/atari games I want to see re-released

You have a mistake there. It's Infogrames who bought Atari and they decided Atari name is much more popular than Infogrames, so they changed their name to Atari.
