If you haven't seen it, it's awesome. It has an actual story and it's a good one. It's what made sci fi so damned awesome for so many years.

I'm into my 10 year old single malt scotch, if anyone has any more good sci-fi shows I can stream off Netflix (or someplace else equally not annoying) please let me know.

Otherwise, please just tell say what the best sci fi you've seen recently is and maybe do a better job than I as to explaining why it was so good (not so sober people may skip the last part, as I have ).

Damn, what Scotch you drinking, OG? I'm a Scotch fan myself, preferring Lagavulin and other Islay malts, although I really enjoy the Talisker as well.

As for Sci-fi shows, despite it being a Joss Whedon offering, I really enjoyed what little we got of Firefly. Just picked up the first three seasons of the newer Battlestar Galactica (I didn't see it when it was first aired). Also got the first couple seasons of Sarah Connor Chronicles dirt cheap, but haven't watched those yet either.

If you're also interested in movies, I'd highly recommend Moon, which I saw not too long ago and thought was very good.

I saw this pop up on Netflix the other week, and I thought it looked pretty interesting. I'll get around to watching it this coming week.

I'm currently half way through the 5th Season of Babylon 5, and it is just fantastic Science Fiction. This is my first time watching the show, and I have loved it. The 1st Season was a bit bumpy, but the story managed to keep you interested. Each season just got better and better. Not just story wise, but acting and special effects wise as well.
The new Battlestar Galactica was amazing in my opinion. It got a little weak in the middle for me and I stopped watching it for a few weeks but once I got back into it I couldn't stop watching.

Firefly is also awesome stuff.

Ardbeg, which is an Islay malt, though not the best one I've ever had. Still, the bottle told me it was good so I'll keep drinking for tonight.

I'm partial to Abelour which you can get around here for around 35 a bottle, it's a 12 year single malt that tastes a lot more like a 100+ dollar bottle. Best scotch hangover for your buck.

I saw Moon recommended several times, will see if I can stream it.

I'm a fan of the original, so had trouble with the 15 minutes or so I saw of one episode. Still, I suppose I should give it a chance, female Starbuck notwithstanding.

I've seen Firefly a million times, and seen Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog several times too. I love them, not sure if I'll watch em tonight.

Oh yeah, wanted to try Sara Connor Chronicles, didn't it get cancelled? Did they finish the story?

Jericho was okay, they managed to get a wrap up story arc that wasn't too horrid into the second season due to the peanuts incident.

What about that Swiss one, Cargo, any good?

I do like Ardbeg, but prefer Laphroaig and Lagavulin over that particular one. I've not had Abelour. I tend to prefer the peaty tasting scotches - the peatier, the better. How does Abelour stand up with regards to that?

I watched the first couple episodes of the new Battlestar, and thought it was pretty good. Give the fem Starbuck some time. The actress tries too hard to be the badass at first IMO, but after a while you get a better vibe from her. At least, I found she was tolerable after a bit.

Sarah Connor Chronicles did manage to finish the story, but also tried to set up a new one obviously in the hopes of getting a reprieve, but the main story arc was finished. Season 2 lagged in the middle, but the beginning and end of the season 2 were both great. Season 1 was good. The story that was set up in the finale looked good, so its unfortunate that the series got canceled, but there is a sense of resolution to the main story at the end of season 2.

The new BSG was fantastic though not without its flaws. Again I would say the mid-point of seasons 2 and 3 were not great and lagged - especially 3's mid-season, but season 3's opening and closing more than made up for it. People seem pretty split down the middle with wether or not they liked the ending in season 4, but there are some great story lines in 4. Season 1 was excellent and had some great SF episodes. As whole the series was not perfect as there were some storylines that just didn't work, but overall, highly recommended.

For TV, I don't think there is much SF out there at the moment sadly unless you really stretch the definition. Ah well.

I think for movies, the best SF movie I've seen recently (and even then the first time I watched it was awhile ago in theaters) was District 9 - a well-written, if obvious, parable with an anti-hero human for the main character, a sort of cinema-verite, documentary, style, and some good action to boot.

I liked Inception, but I know you didn't so I'll leave that off.

Oh and I watched the original Star Wars trilogy recently ... does that count? :)

I've never even heard of Hunter Prey. What is it about?

Think Enemy Mine, but without the suck. Watch it, watch it now, you won't be disappointed I'd bet.

District 9 was amazing and I look forward to a well written sequel.

Way less peaty but still an amazing flavor. Even if it's away from what you prefer, give it a shot, it's incredibly pleasant.

We have a bar in town with shelves so high they use one of those rolling library ladders to get above the mid-shelves. At the top you can have a 50 dollar shot of scotch. Everyone says you can savor one glass for 30 minutes or more. I've been many times, but never put aside the 30 minutes to enjoy one:)

Netflix has it on streaming if you have that.

Sadly I don't. I believe Enemy Mine itself is based on a WWII movie with Toshiro Mufini and Lee Marvin: Hell in the Pacific. Supposedly a good movie, meant to take a look at it one day too. (Obviously not a science fiction movie but I thought I'd throw it in since it is related story-wise)

Except Hell In The Pacific was really good and Enemy Mine wasn't:)

The piss scene ARG! I'm dying, can't breathe....

Oh I dunno ... I agree there were some corny moments in Enemy Mine and the second half of the movie is definitely weaker but I have a soft spot for it overall.
If you've never seen it, or it's been forever since you've seen it, you can't go wrong with Babylon 5. The stories could be absolutely amazing at times, the characters were epic, the whole damn show was a wad of kick ass intelligent mixed with a bit of epic history and epic poems turned into their own science fiction stories. It's also a critique on the tropes that science fiction loves to bring out; the perfect one-world government, the space station and ships that can magically support themselves without any kind of infrastructure, etc. I'd only seen this recently, and it's far and above my favorite science fiction anything put to the big screen. Except for the last season. That horrible, horrible last season.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Originally a straight rip off of Babylon 5, it quickly grew into its own, offering an epic story with epic characters in itself. It hits its peak from seasons 3-6. I've only recently discovered this one too.

Battlestar Galactica. The first season, and then the rescue episode from Iraq World. The rest of it is absolute shit with characters becoming so atrocious that you start rooting for the Cylons to wipe them all out.

If you don't mind cartoons:

Planetes. There isn't a science fiction show that actually deals with speculative science fiction in existence on television better than this.

Exosquad! It's got the voice of Prince Alexander from King's Quest VI, and if you can get past the cheesy 90s art, it actually has a pretty damn good story. Nothing we really haven't seen before, but it's presented well.

Outlaw Star. This one's just plain fun.

I love cartoons! Nothing better than some Hellsing or Appleseed!@. Recently watched Draker than Black (kinda lame) and Fullmetal Alchemist (to conclusion, had seen many episodes before - it is awesome).

I need to watch B5. As for DS9 I will club captain Janeway to death with a splintery baseball bat, I hate that show and I hate that character. Yes, seven of nine is kind of hot but it does not save this horrid show DIE SHWO DIE. I did buy my ex father in law who was afan of this show a tshirt with seven of nine and a huge cardboard cutout of her and picard (i know he's not in it, but he lieks hime too). He was embarassed but I made him take them to work.

Okay, looking at all the red, i'm off to post in the drunk thread iuf i can find it.
