Kristian: Humble Bundle: "We would love for you to be in our bundle, you just have to agree to provide use the games in a cross-platform(Windows, Mac, Linux) and DRM free state".
Devs: "We would love to be in your bundle, but we expect to be treated equally and fairly. So obviously you will allow us to provide you with Windows only Steam keys since that only fair."
Humble Bundle: "Uhm....."
amok: HB "uhmm - yes, and we sold 220k bundles in the first 6 hours, made over 1.2 million in just 6 hours. We have a huge user base and we will let you on on the game if you just supply your games with DRM free and cross platform exe.'s... So what do you say guys, are you in?"
devs: "umm, not sure, we like our drm.."
HB: "That's fine, we have a talk with some other devs the other day who would like to get in, soo....."
Devs "Sure, we want a slice of that action"
whooaaaa - I just got this strange feeling of déjà vu
"HB: "That's fine, we have a talk with some other devs the other day who would like to get in, soo....." "
That part is proving to be extremely unrealistic. They didn't do so with THQ. So we have no reason to expect them to do so ever again.
"Devs "Sure, we want a slice of that action" "
This would only ever work with desperate devs. Prior to this, Humble Bundle may have been able to convince some devs that aren't desperate. They will never be able to do that now and THAT is a bad thing.
""uhmm - yes, and we sold 220k bundles in the first 6 hours, made over 1.2 million in just 6 hours."
Using sales numbers from a DRMed Windows only bundle to argue for developers joining a DRM free, cross-platform bundle is disingenuous and developers would see right through it.
Edit:
"Now if another big developer whistles, I guess it's likely that this will happen again"
Profanity, exactly. While prior to this they may have gotten some of those big developers on board with a DRM free, cross-platform bundle now they will get none. That is problem. The same is true with some of the bigger, more established indie's.
Edit2:
On another note Profanity, I like your bending over backwards wording. Since that is exactly what Humble Bundle is doing for THQ.
