Well, no, because the client offers faster chunked downloads with pause/resume and so on, functionality you wouldn't get with the website downloads.

And this is still ignoring the fact that you're talking about the DRM of the client. Everyone else is talking about the DRM of the games themselves.

But it's still DRM, and you don't get full functionality without it.

Can I just say that if you want to have this discussion then use the terms correctly? It is digital RIGHTS management. digital RESTRICTION management is only used by the anti-drm league and shifts the goal posts to a point it is a useless discussion. There is no use for any digital RESTRICTION management for the end user, but it can be argued that digital RIGHTS management can have some benefits.

I was mostly refering to amok's list and DRM-free cloud saving, but it may have disappeared among the lines.

What is "full functionality"? Surely "full functionality" of the games themselves is literally just being able to play them?

Let's put it another way - do you think third-party clients that add extra features to games (such as X-Fire, which adds community and multiplayer matchup features, or Raptr, which adds stat logging, achievements and (I believe) cloud-saving options) are DRM? Are people who play games without them missing "full functionality"?

Full functionality=everything you paid for. They are not missing it as those are.extra 3rd party services.

To bring an end to this:

Low intrusive DRM has benefits that DRM free packages cannot offer.

DRM free packages have benefits that DRM negates.

DRM free packages should still be sold, but, to avoid exploitation, receive less service. The service must be tied to DRM to avoid exploitation and costs for the service provider.

DRM free games should also be sold only at the EU/US tier of pricing, to avoid exploitation.

DRM free games should only come with an installer and not with additional codes, to avoid exploitation.

Can everybody agree on this?

Why would you want to do that? What's wrong with you man?

You paid to be able to re-download the games... and yet you cannot re-download them without being logged, do you call that DRM ? after all you are missing on the "full functionality" if you are not logged.

And on GOG you pay for the games. You wouldn't pay for the client. I'm not missing anything because Zork doesn't include cloud-saves or auto-updating. It never had those to begin with. Extra functionality is just that - extra.

It is quite clearly DRM. But is is not tied to the game.
