See, this it the kind of post that +1s were made for, not that "giveaway" schlock ;)

Fuzzyfireball: GOG needs a "Golden Threads" section.
Better than a "Golden Showers" section.

Seriously in the picture, which one is the dork? No the other dork. No not him, the dork standing next to him. No, the dork behind that one. Oh forget it! :P

tinyE: That's actually a picture of the Polish army getting ready to repel the Nazi invasion in 1939.
Then it goes without saying that this is their theme song.

Firek: We are ready.
Preparing for world domination...
Good to see all the blues out today, must be spring.

Absolutely, I never meant the post as an insult. The Polish army threw everything they had at them in the eyes of impossible odds and it's something the country should take pride in despite the outcome.

BlueMooner: Does anybody know how well GOG is doing? Are they raking in the cash? Making a decent profit? Just breaking water or are they losing cash daily? I'm not looking for exact numbers, was just casually wondering if anybody knew.

Mostly I'm wondering due to the forum here. While I love GOG, the forum is a bit... simple, IMO (no offense to the GOG staff who maintain it). I'm thinking perhaps the reason GOG doesn't do more with the forum is because they can't afford expensive web designers and new software. There have been requests for forum features that are never implemented, and I'm guessing the only reason they aren't is due to budget constraints.

Thoughts?
Considering their catalog and the amount of buzz they generate around the internet gaming community sites it seems reasonable to believe they are doing well but as for details I would not expect those.

As for the condition of the forums, part of it is probably just a matter of priorities as the company continues to grow (I am guessing) since they have a lot of fish to fry all at the same time. Only a small minority of GOG customers actually use the forums so I can understand how in the grand scheme of things, throwing a lot of money at this particular area versus other competing areas, say perhaps getting Linux support going (again, just a guess) might not be a high priority. They do work "good enough." We're all here and communicating, gripes and all.

So that's my guess. They will probably improve slowly over time but this I'd expect is a back burner item and it probably should be for GOG at this point. Although it is a big question mark to what extent Steam is going to continue bringing on classic games over there, that is a much bigger concern and therefore trying to focus resources on acquiring a broader catalog of DRM-free titles spanning not only the old but as new as possible too, just to compete and survive for the long haul would be a lot more important than spending time and money on working forums.

Resources are always limited for any business and they have to focus them where they will do the most overall good for the company.

That's my take on this stuff anyway.

JMich: Can we also get some names to go with the faces? And did you ever thought about applying for JA2 mercs?
I don't want to reveal people who don't want to reveal themselves - I'm sure they'll visit this thread eventually. I'm the guy with the shotgun, as per my usual gaming preference. ;)

Understandable. That makes it two I recognize then.
Excellent choice of weapon btw, assuming close quarters fighting.

Em.....I know you didn't post it as an insult. The fact that the Polish were badasses during WWII is undeniable.
