QFT even if wolf3D feels a bit dated now.... Sadly the state FPS is in these days even mediocre games from back in the day are better then 95% of the shooters now in terms of gameplay. It's sad for me because it's (i can almost say this in past tense unfortunately) my favorite genre...

I agree, OP. I just re-played Doom on my iPod, and I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I've been playing several very old shooters the past year and they are more fun than expected. I don't like any modern shooters.

As for Doom, haven't played it, probably will never play it, but thanks for the recommendation. It's a different style of game than modern shooters, I agree with that. Modern shooters try for a story experience, and are more linear. For non-story I prefer the UT games, but I can understand those who like the map/secret areas/lots of enemies style of play.

Doom will always be my favourite FPS game, no FPS game since Doom has held my attention so well. Duke 3D came close, but the rest of the game just falls flat after amazing shareware episodes. Blood was good as well.

My godfather (who was also partial to PCs and even a bit of PC gaming back then) managed to try the shareware episode before me. I recall him saying "This is great... but damn it is very violent.".
I think I should show something like FarCry 2 to him. Do you still think Doom is that violent?

Incidentally, as screwed up as this country is it is still a free country. We don't get locked up for things like this.

This is the dumbest conversation I've ever had. Think I'll break tradition and actually stick with the topic forum here. :P
