Sogi-Ya: uhm .... that's like quitting after your first grunt gets killed in a command & conquer title.

everything outside of your mother ship is cannon fodder, when I was talking about clearing out my Rez bank attacking space stations the ships I was using were 1 hound (replacement cost of 75) and 2 Gyros (replacement cost of 5 rez) ... my rez bank is 2,500.

I had to have replaced at least 50 ships since the little ones go down in within seconds of coming under fire from a space station, thankfully you can set your mother ship to automatically start replace lost ships as soon as they pop.
That's a very good point and I don't know why now I didn't have the sense to see it that way at the time. I think I was actually expecting the loss of ships to be a rarity for some reason. So I'll give it another go. Thanks for pointing that out. I really liked everything else I'd experienced. It's quite an amazing bit of work for just two guys developing it.
I grabbed this game during the Steam Christmas sale because of the rave reviews, but I don't get the hysteria over it yet... It's neat but I don't see anything revolutionary in it. Maybe I just need to play it more?

Of course I'm engrossed in Rome Total War right now, and any other game seems quite shallow in comparison to that :)
well I'm now about 4k in data debt after respecing most of my stats ....

I found something better than beams!

the Particle Cannon! load up a crawler with 6 of 'em + 3 cannon boosters and watch the star bases crumble!
Hey folks. I just tried the demo on a laptop of mine. Sys req. on GG are listed as "256 MB 3D DirectX 9 Compatible video card". My laptop - integrated graphics - plays the first 20 minutes of the demo fine. Can I expect problems later as the game ramps up, or are sys reqs overstated? Thanks.

Wait until you start losing 750 rez ships, those kind of hurt:)

Yeah, the game does tend to make you into canon fodder, but the point is the strategy, not the individual ships.

Yeah, if you can get shields down those are nice. I really tried to like the Crawler but never did end up liking it.

If it plays the demo fine I don't see what other problems you would have, the whole game is like that.

yeah, it kinda sucks .... should have had medium mounts instead.

I found something even better though! got my first huge ships today and can finally play with the tech I've had sitting around .... funny how getting a hold of the low end stuff has been a bitch, but the high end blueprints fall from the sky.

carrier + two leach emiters on the front huge mounts + a triple mount turret loaded with three massdrivers + everything else being replaced with cannon boosters.

Took me about 5 seconds to bring down the shields on the first huge ship I could find and aim at, a sunspot, then one volly from the massdrives and it popped.

Careful of those Sunspots, there's a big difference between the low level ones and the high level ones.

Yeah, Leach Emitters are pretty much key to my gameplay because you can effectively neutralize a big ship, they can barely move and rarely fire. It also allowed me to fire more often using their stolen energy (which really never got old as entertainment). They also make up for slightly weak reactors if you haven't been keeping up on them:)
SPAZ?
People talking about Steel Panthers: Axis invasion of new Zealand?
Space Pirates And Zombies .... personally I think this game puts to rest the age old debate of who would win space Pirates or space Zombies.

'cause the zombies are some real motherfuckers ... if I can run from 'em, I do.

The zombies are pretty easy to "fuck up beyond all recognition" in late game:)
Don't miss: big update incoming Monday 19.3.
The devs promise to remove the key activation until 19.5.
I tell this, because after the last patch my 'DRM free' version from Gamersgate phoned home to update automatically.

Remove activation until 19/5? So they're making it DRM-free, but only temporarily. Where'd you find this out by the way?

It's in their forums; the thread is called 'DRM' or similar

I didn't see anything about them adding activation back in...

The only thing I saw is that they plan to remove it on or before 9/5/12, nothing about adding it back in (which is a good thing).

That's what I meant.
I thought, that the One-time-activation might shrug off some new buyers, maybe, and only wanted to tell that it has to be activated.
