House is a blast but more a zany absurdity than what people typically think of as horror so while worth seeking out it demands an open mind.

doccarnby: Onibaba is great, but not really B-Movie. But I highly recommend it. Tombs of the Blind Dead was mentioned, but I also recommend it. Especially if you get the Blue Underground version and check out the alternate opening for a propsed America rework.

IAmSinistar: is another with a Criterion release. Along with [url=http://www.criterion.com/films/27523-house]House.

Some of the proposed edits to the Blind Dead films look like someone was going for a whole different movie.
If by "whole different movie" you mean "Planet of the Apes ripoff", then yes. ;)

I picked up the Kuroneko Criterion release because I was at a Barnes and Noble that had a bunch of them, but it didn't have Onibaba. It... didn't feel as good as Onibaba, I think, where Onibaba's ending felt right, Kuroneko's didn't so much.
I think it's odd that given the name and avatar of one of the thread regulars we haven't had any mentions of such classics as
The Giant Gila Monster
Attack of the Eye Creatures
Manos Hands of Fate
The Screaming Skull

just to name a few.
I especially liked "The Screaming Skull" as it actually came with a public service announcement regarding the need for a coffin should you be 'scared to death' while watching the movie.

Fixed that for you.

Edit: Also going to throw in everything that William Castle did.

Folks might enjoy it who also enjoyed the series of A Chinese Ghost Story movies.

Agreed. Even with the MST3K treatment, there is something jarring about the way The Screaming Skull is filmed and paced. It seems to want to disorient the viewer from reality along with the heroine, much as Carnival Of Souls does.

+1 for both of those. It's good to see Castle getting recognition again, even if it is via a series of (mostly) mediocre remakes. I will admit to enjoying the remake of Thirteen Ghosts however, as well as House On Haunted Hill (Geoffrey Rush, Famke Janssen & Jeffrey Combs, say no more).

Does Vincent Price in Theater of Blood count as a b-movie? He really hams it up in that one with some gruesome death gags.

Cohen's The Stuff is a great horror satire.

I was disappointed by Kuroneko. Polanski's Repulsion on the other hand is a masterpiece.

Hah, but the thing is, some of these movies are terrible when you watch them by themselves without the MST3K dialog. And when I say terrible, I mean unenjoyable. I actually watched Manos on its own. Of course I probably picked the worst one, but it was truly awful.

I don't think I ever saw the Screaming Skull episode. Will have to check that out.
