hedwards: You know the fandom is bad when they'll let you split a story into halves and release said halves like a year apart. It's not like the LotR trilogy where they were originally a 3 books and the movie company just did a bit of rearranging to make it actually possible to follow the movies.
FYI the LotR trilogy originally was meant to be just one (thick) book, but then the publisher decided to split it into 3 books. (see wikipedia:LotR)

"[The Lord of the Rings] urgently wanted cutting" (Milton Waldman, for Collins & Sons, 1950)

"I should (if I took all the criticisms together and obeyed them) find little left." (Tolkien, in a letter to Waldman)

Actually, Tolkien not only wanted Lord of the Rings published as one volume, he also wanted The Silmarillion in its entirety as its companion. I cannot say that the publishers were unwise to refuse him.

macuahuitlgog: WOW, you really are stupid. You just don't get it even though I made myself crystal clear. The day you reproduce is a sad day on this earth, indeed. LOL accusing me of being a hypocrite by saying me complaining on a forum is the same as preventing others from enjoying a movie... Dumb ass.... LOL accusing me of being a rude child when I'm simply insulting people who deserve to be insulted because their behavior is disgusting. Dumb ass... So how about you learn how to speak English, you fucking simpleton, take your smart pills or sign off?

Shalgroth: Hahaha. Oh, wow. So much hot air and so little substance. The way to win an argument is to completely avoid any logical debate, call strangers names because they don't agree with your view point and thus aren't part of the Master Race (I mean, are inferior in comparison to your highly sophisticated and eloquent ways), and accuse everyone else of being a simpleton despite the fact that you haven't actually brought anything intelligent to the table.

Again, bravo. Bravo.
Ok.... I am shocked by your previous message... Really...What is wrong with you? You are insulting me for calling people names even though you were the one who started the whole name calling business by calling me a moron... Yes, up until you called me a moron, I did not call anyone here, this or that because I like to keep things civil at the GOG forums. Yes, to people who disagree with me, I imagine all the things I said previously really got on their nerves but still, things were civil. But you called me a moron, and I always defend myself. Yes, my previous message had very little substance. It was a angry response to you calling me a moron. And because I'm from Germany, you had to include the words "master race" in your previous message? So just because I'm from Germany, I'm also a Nazi?

WHAT?! Wait.. I'm sorry. Weren't you calling everyone here, myself included, douchebags, because we were okay with the "disgraceful" performance by the Harry Potter fans? You've been insulting EVERYONE, directly or indirectly ("I am more of a sir, than you" ring a bell?), long before I called you a moron. And to point out, the fact that I called you a moron was based on what you had been posting - hypocritical nonsense, and rabid attacks against people who don't agree with you. Dare I say there's more than enough reason to dismiss you as a moron. Also, "did you forget your smart pills?"

Come on, if you're insulting people without even realising it.. You have some serious problems you need to look into. But don't play the victim, because you're not.

And no, things were not civil. You attacked people verbally, insinuated that they're beneath you in all manner of ways, whether it be intellectual, cultural (in regards to sophistication rather than country) and so forth.

It's not because you're German. It's because you're behaving like a jack booted thug. Don't try and palm me off as the type of person who believes that Germans are instantly Nazis.

So to make this perfectly clear.

You have a view point. You are angered that people do not conform to this view point. You believe that those who don't conform to this view point should be ousted just because they annoy you. You look down at all who even think of arguing against you.

All of those reasons are why I'm calling you a jackboot. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING GERMAN.

Is that clear enough for you? By the way.. You know that genocide has been practiced by many different races as "ethnic cleansing"? It wasn't only the Nazis. =P

That would have been a serious mistake.

But while, we're at it, Tolkien could have used an editor. The books themselves were a mess and in need of some actual pruning.

Thankfully, we were also spared from George Lucas' 12 hour movie that was his original wish with Star Wars.

lukaszthegreat: unfortunately with that i have to agree.
but you are one of them too.

Believing that everyone should act by your rules. because they are correct and everyone else are not.
comparing people who talk in theaters to violent criminals...

Premier of movies like HP is meant to be for people who cosplay, kid around and just rejoicing while watching their fav. movie of all time.
this is their right as is yours to watch it in peace.

but your right is not violated. you can watch the movie. go next week, or 2 weeks from now. don't on premiers when it is widely accepted by most civilized folks to be a fanfeast for fanboys and fangirls.
avatar
macuahuitlgog: What makes you think these rules are my rules? They are not my rules. I've met many people in my life that also believe in these rules. It is called not being a wild animal. And I don't have a problem with people who dress up, but kidding around during a movie is a deceiving way of saying being inconsiderate towards others.
but what we have been trying to say:
you are inconsiderate towards others. Premiers for those kind of movies are not meant for only for people like you but for fanboys and fangirls who had been supporting the franchise way more than you or me. especially those midnight premiers to which i went yesterday.

You said that those people should be forbidden. What about forbidding nachos from cinemas too? I hate the smell for example and if someone next to me eats them 20min of movie can be ruined for me.

I don't believe it is correct thing to do, to use your own likes and dislikes to dictate how society should behave. A civilized person should be more open to others points of views and be more acceptable of how others are having fun. Otherwise he would be a guy who goes to see children's movie at 10am on saturday and complains that a kid next to him spilled a coke and that lights were not completely turned off.

And yes, I know, what a burglar does is 100 times worse than what I'm complaining about. But most people hate burglars and would get hostile if people started defending them. I hate loud and obnoxious people at movie theaters. And I 100% believe you are calling me a jack booted thug because I am from Germany.

Does someone eating nachos prevent you from hearing what the characters are saying in the movie? You can not compare the eating of nachos to people screaming out spells while waving wands in front of you... I'm not using my own likes and dislikes to dictate how society should behave..... How many times do I have to tell you? And being accepting of everything isn't being civilized. Should we be more accepting towards rapists and murderers? Ok, a bit extreme to start talking about such violent criminals. Should we be more accepting towards people who find it okay to have their dog take a dump on your front lawn and not pick it up? Should we be more accepting towards people who pirated The Witcher 2? And when did Harry Potter movies become children's movies? And just because a movie is a children's movie, it doesn't give people the green light to behave like wild animals.

too late for me to write a proper follow up.

nobody is talking about tolerating a behavior of a person who screams spells through whole movie. OP did not said that, nor was anyone here saying that. You are over exaggerating to just make your point which is always a fallacy in constructing a proper argument
I also did not say HP is a children's movie. I just compared the situation of midnight premier of HP a movie showing aimed mostly for fans so they can all gather together, dress up and behave silly just to celebrate the pretty big event for their fandom to a showing dedicated to small children aka suited for different groups. The comparison has nothing to do whether HP is for children or not. You cannot complain about loud kids at 10am showing of Winnie the pooh like you cannot complain about loud adults at 12am showing of HP. you don't belong to the proper group at which those showings are targeted therefore if it annoys you so much it is YOUR responsibility to stay away and find yourself 'more civilized' showing.

and yeah. nacho in a way prevents me from properly watching the movie.

edit: and yes you are using your own likes and dislikes.

You want people to go to cinema without emotions talking quietly before the movie, sitting without any emotion through the movie and then when movie is over they should just leave the premise.
and anyone who goes Crucio with a fake wand at someone else before or after a movie should be promptly kicked out, anyone who draws a fake scar should be kicked out and anyone who goes "Dont do this Ron" during the movie should be kicked out.

THIS IS HOW I SEE YOU MATE. This is how you presented your side of argument.

He said "3. Loads of people wearing dress shirts under sweaters to mimic the school look, swinging wands around and screaming spells " So it is intelligent to assume it happened nonstop during the movie.

And can you explain how the eating of nachos prevent you from hearing what the characters are saying? Can you explain to me, how the eating of nachos in front of prevents you from seeing the movie? You can still see the movie and hear what is being said, so you can still watch the movie.

I'm going to do this in bullet point because you don't seem to really comprehend what's going on and because my patience is waning.

* If people who behave in the manner outlinned by the OP are douchebags, your hostile and unreasonable personal attacks towards those who didn't agree with you would label you a douchebag in the eyes of many people. Therefore, it's hypocrisy. Whether you can see that or not.

* The hostility towards people who don't share your point of view, and the need for them to be removed from situations for your comfort is despotic. This is what it is to be dictatorial, it has been the basis for dictatorships long before the national boundaries of today. You, and only you, are the one who is linking it to your German ethnicity. If you believe, one hundred percent, that I'm calling you a jackbooted thug because you're German then you are incredibly mistaken.

* Loud and obnoxious people do not compare with violent criminals on any sane and reasonable scale. The comparison is ridiculous. So you're hostility towards nonviolent people is without reason, whereas there would be reason against violent criminals.

Though really, if you fail to understand after this long, there's no hope that you will at all. And I really can't be bothered.

smell of nachos prevents me from concentrating properly on the movie. i will miss what a character said which is not that much of a problem or even noticeable with Transformers 3 but with more mature movies it is.
I wont properly see a scene because i cannot dedicated my full attention to it.

sure. it ain't even as half as bad as someone talking on a phone 10 seats away from me.

but why draw a line? any annoying behaviour should be banned. you want obnoxious cosplayer at 12am gone i want nachos eating fatties to be gone too.*

- Someone who is being hostile to people who don't share his or her view by telling them what he or she thinks of them is not douchebag behavior. It is having some back bone. Your definition of douchebag is wrong. For example, punks here are extremely hostile towards Nazis. Are the punks being douchebags? The answer is no.

- And it it is not despotic to have people removed for preventing people from watching a movie they paid for.. They are simply being removed, not put in some kind of prison or something.

- My comparison is not ridiculous. People behaving like wild animals have much in common with violent criminals if the people behaving like wild animals are making people suffer. And there is a reason I am hostile towards these nonviolent people. The reason is, they are preventing people from watching the movie they paid for...making these people suffer. That is a reason, believe it or not.

You are the one who is hopeless. You just refuse to understand what I am saying. I could write gibberish and get almost the same responses from you.

Ok, at 3 in the morning, surrounded by young adults screaming spells and waving wands in my face = people waving wands and screaming out spells during the movie. I didn't read anywhere in his post, that this happened after the movie. And if the smell of nachos prevents you from concentrating properly on the movie and you are not a small minority then yes, I think movie theaters should stop selling nachos. And no, it wont prevent people who enjoy nachos from enjoying the movie. They can still enjoy the movie without nachos. See, everyone wins...

3 am means after the movie as the movie was most likely at 12am there is no reason to assuming it meant during the movie. especially that part about wand waving. he also mentioned the
also it is silly to believe someone would scream and wave a wand through 2 and half hour movie.

and no. not everyone wins as nachos are first popcorn is second. and i would not enjoy movie without a popcorn. i didn't buy once and it was lousy experience. to me Popcorn and coke are essential part of enjoying the movie. if i cannot have them i would not go to movies at all and would just wait for dvd (not for every movie but my cinema attendance would drop by 50% for certain).

I do not understand, how you can only enjoy a movie with popcorn and coke. So a movie automatically sucks for you without popcorn and coke to consume? Anyway, you made me realize something. That maybe some people need to be loud and obnoxious during a movie in order to enjoy a movie. So IF some people can only enjoy a movie while behaving loud and obnoxious, I do not consider them douchebags. Douchebags make other people suffer while having the option to not make other people suffer and still have a good time.

I don't think people who have to be loud and obnoxious in order to enjoy a movie should be banned from movie theaters. I only think the people who are being loud and obnoxious and can enjoy the movie without being loud and obnoxious should be banned from movie theaters. Do you understand me now?

I thought it was impossible for people to not enjoy a movie if they can't be loud or obnoxious by waving wands, screaming out spells, eating nachos etc Now I know better after you told me you can't enjoy a movie without popcorn and coke. Of course, I am not hostile towards people who HAVE to wave wands and scream out spells during a movie in order to enjoy a movie even if it is annoying, But if these people can enjoy the movie without being annoying but are being annoying for some extra fun(being spoiled little brats), then of course, I'm going to be hostile towards them.
